Michel Bertola designs a stand turning technology into decorative items for the home and the office Moon combines the strength and elegance of marble with the lightness of technology. This is the new desk stand for last generation tablets and mobile phones made completely of white marble from Carrara. Seventeen centimetres by seventeen centimetres, this very special tablet stand is made in two pieces: a half moon in marble and a support in Plexiglas, which matches the marble perfectly and serves to tilt the tablet in the desired position. Moon weighs just under two kilos and can be moved from 0 to 90 degrees with a fingertip. It is an original product by the designer Michael Bertola from Carrara who took nine months to study and test it. “The idea came to me by chance – said the young Michael, 28, full of enthusiasm and passion for marble – as a result of another creation, a semi-circular lamp that I had made and on which I had casually placed my tablet. That gave me the idea and I started work on it. The biggest difficulty was how to make it stable”. Moon was first shown during the presentation of Carrara Expo 2015 to the Chamber of Commerce of Carrara and then it was put on the net where it is attracting a lot of curiosity and appreciation from many people, fascinated by such a unique, inimitable product that can be personalised. To avoid copies and fakes, the tablet stand has already been patented in Europe and next February will be patented worldwide. Each stand is unique due to the variation in the veining and shades of colours of the material used. This is the unique feature of marble, a natural and irregular material, which constantly changes colours and forms, and is therefore unrepeatable. Unique, elegant and refined: this is its definition. “Unique and refined thanks to the marble – explained Michael – elegant in its form and simplicity, refined since if placed on a desk or in the living room, it inevitably adds a touch of elegance like all marble objects. It is an artisan product that cannot be mechanised and, in a world where everything tends to be the same and homologated, Moon stands for differentiation”. In the meantime, while the first stands are arriving in America, purchased by a marble company in America, other versions for smaller tablets are being studied, even though the one already on the market does the job too.
