Depression Screening Awareness Day. Developed by licensed professionals, the screening program provides a safe and confidential tool for collegian and alumnae members as well as the general public to take a short assessment to determine if symptoms are consistent with challenges of emotional well-being.
Service & Philanthropy $21,371.74
The Fraternity’s Service and Philanthropy program provides education and resources to help participants understand the value of a particular cause and the importance of donating our time and resources to that cause. In particular, the Fraternity’s focus is on Theta’s national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA provides volunteers to speak on behalf of foster children in court. These volunteers are trained to research cases and advocate on behalf of the children to ensure that their needs are met. In order to best advocate for this important social justice issue, education and understanding are key. The Foundation supported the Fraternity’s efforts to create awareness for and advocate for CASA through staff and volunteer attendance at the National CASA Annual Conference. The conference provides educational sessions and speakers to provide research and best practices on the issues facing foster children today. Theta representatives spent time learning from sessions as well as meeting with key CASA leaders to discuss partnership opportunities.

Theta Talk $2,700.00
Theta Talk is an opportunity for the Fraternity to share Theta values with all students at a college campus by sponsoring a speaker to discuss a topic relevant to that campus. Last year’s Theta Talk presentation was held at North Carolina State University, hosted by the Theta Theta Chapter. This program featured Jess Ekstrom, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Headbands of Hope. For every headband purchased, HOH gives one to a girl with cancer and donates $1 to childhood cancer research. Jess’s presentation focused on encouraging audience members to change awareness of issues into action. According to Jess: “Awareness is only skimming the surface of change. When we focus on action instead of just awareness, things really change.”
Theta Foundation also supported CASA’s presence at the Fraternity’s 2014 Grand Theta Theta Chapter
In 2013 – 2014:
Convention. Ashley Rhodes-Courter, a well-known author, speaker, and advocate for foster children and the CASA program, spoke to Convention attendees about her memoir Three Little Words, which recounts her own experience in foster care.
