Carpet Recycling UK Responsible disposal alternatives for post-consumer and clean installation carpet waste will be a key focus for Carpet Recycling UK at the show. Visitors to CRUK’s stand can learn more about how an expansion in clean installation waste take-back schemes and the development of more than 30 outlets processing carpet waste for new uses offer many advantages for retailers. “Retailers who take positive steps towards sustainable disposal of waste carpet, such as participation in take-back schemes for clean installation offcuts, can benefit from enhanced customer perceptions and reduced waste collections,” says CRUK co-ordinator Jane Gardner. “Not only are they enhancing their green credentials in helping to divert carpet and underlay waste from landfill, but they differentiate their business from competitors. This is an added selling point with increasingly ecoconscious consumers,” she continues. Increased take-back schemes across the UK has led to a rise in production of non-woven products, such as underlay and mattress pads, from reprocessed post-manufacture waste and clean installation off-cuts. CRUK’s promotion of new uses for carpet waste is helping to divert more of the UK’s annual 400,000 tonnes of carpet waste from landfill with a 21.4% diversion rate – or 85,000 tonnes - achieved in 2012. Its target is 25% diversion from landfill by 2015. T 0161 440 8325
