Belmonte gets Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award in NCR from Civil Service body
QUEZON City Mayor Joy Belmonte has received the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award in the National Capital Region under the CSC’s 2023 Search for Outstanding Government Workers program.
“I thank the CSC for this recognition. But this is not just for me alone but for all workers at the Quezon City govern- ment who are giving their best to serve all of our QCitizens,” she said.
“If not for them, we cannot achieve this special recognition that only proves of our effective and beneficial programs and projects,” she added.
The certificate, issued on May 19, was presented last Wednesday. Established by virtue of Executive
Order No. 508 if 1992, the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award is an award for outstanding work performance and contributors with national impact.
According to the CSC process, the names of the regional winners would then be forwarded to the Honor Awards Program National Secretariat for review before a national qualifier would be determined.
Several city government officials, led by City Administrator Michael Alimurung, were also nominated for the Pagasa Award, along with Chief of Staff Rowena Macatao, Business Permits and Licensing Department head Margarita Santos, city engineer Dale Perral and city treasurer Edgar Villanueva. PNP probes Taguig shooting; no sanctions filed against officers involved in incident

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting incident at the Taguig City Police Station which resulted in the death of a police officer.
The Southern Police District (SPD) announced that there will be no sanction to be imposed against police personnel involved in the said shooting incident.
Police Executive Master Sgt. Heriberto Saguiped was killed, while Chief Master Sgt. Al-Rakib Aguell and Corporal Alison Sindac were injured in the shooting incident that took place inside the Taguig City Police Station’s Community Affairs Section where they are all assigned.

BOC, US Homeland strengthen ties vs. smuggling
THE Bureau of Customs - Ninoy Aquino International Airport has strengthened its partnership with the United States Homeland Security to help crack down on drug smuggling in the Philippines.
In a meeting hosted by NAIA district collector Yasmin Mapa, representatives from the US Homeland Security Investigation Team discussed measures and future collaborations in the fight against the illegal importation of contraband.
Mapa described the meeting with Acting Attache Victor Grigoryan, Assistant Attache Roldan Vasquez, Foreign Service National Investigator Captain Evangeline Morales, and Foreign Service National Investigator Denver Langaman as productive, saying the bureau is optimistic about the progress they can make in the government’s anti-drug campaign.

DOLE vows to respect workers’ rights
THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) vowed to support workers’ fundamental right to freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining while also fulfilling its role in the whole-of-nation approach to end local communist armed conflict.
In a statement, the DOLE said that these rights are fundamental human rights and they also promote sound labor market governance and can contribute to addressing inequality and poverty.
Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma made the remarks during the meeting with the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) to promote a common understanding of the freedom of association and strengthen areas of convergence in implementing NTFELCAC initiatives.
