Out with the old, in with the new. A saying we all would love to be able to say about 2021, whether it’s the virus, school, or fashion trends, sometimes we have to let go! Yes, we admit: the batik trend has successfully brought us through the first lockdown phase. Whether homemade or shopped, it was colourful in spring and summer. We make an exception for everyone for whom the separation is still too difficult: For vacation on the beach or in the festival season, the boho pieces can be dug out again. But we should leave it at that. Flashy hair accessories were very popular in 2020. And while statement hair clips with rhinestones or pearls will continue to accompany us in the New Year, especially on chic occasions, we are saying goodbye to the layering variant with thin clips and only using our bobby pins in 2021 to fix our hairstyle. However, bold and brilliant accessories are not making an exit entirely… chunky rings have taken over. These resin rings, as a modern-day trend are brave and here to stay for the summer. Whether boots, blazers, or a total look – Snake print was really to be seen everywhere in the past year. But we've had enough of fake snakes for now. While Leo is still a long runner, we prefer to provide variety with the zebra instead of wild snakes on the animal print front. Even if gold and silver booties have always made for shiny appearances in the past, they will remain in the back row of our shoe cupboards in 2021. Instead, we use crocodile embossing or ankle boots in trendy white. Just as eye -catching and stylish, but more elegant and timeless. Even if we say goodbye to these trends for the time being, that does not mean that they will never come back. You know that. Everything comes back at some point. Hach, the micro-bag trend with its cute size and bright colours was already fun this year and put you in a good mood! But let's be honest: the mini bags have never been particularly practical. That's why the motto for 2021 is: The bigger the better! Or so big that you can at least stow your phone, wallet, and keys without any problems. What luck, the trendy bags from the French label Jacquemus are also one size larger.

FASHION

Meanwhile, we welcome these trends into the men’s fashion world

New Utility, this style of jacket has never quite disappeared within the fashion, doing the rounds in spring of 2020, and apparently making a return for spring/ summer of 2021, having been updated for a more allround high function vibe. From the military-man-meets -twitcher-in-town field jackets at Gucci and Zegna (cut from canvas at the former and leather at the latter) to the all-over safari looks at Balmain and that insanely luxurious crocodile field jacket at Dior, next summer it’s all about looking like you're coming out of the apocalypse fighting, which we kind of have).

The micro-trend of ‘Nautical’ was a statement made by Gucci at the Casablanca show which included the brands anchor-covered intarsia-knit sweaters. They were closely followed by Dolce&Gabbana with their exaggerated Breton-style tops, which allow plenty of air offering a looser fit to their sailor sweats, which could come in appropriate for the more adventurous. This trend is designed young, tailored to be old, perfect for all. Groundbreaking news… bomber jackets are going to be big for summer 2021, whilst this probably isn’t a shock, you have the SS21 shows to thank for that. Gucci, once again leading the way with their 1970s-style cropped bomber jacket in functional nylon, about as functional as Gucci gets. On the other end of the spectrum, the cropped minimalist bombers by Hermès and Prada avoided the maximalist look they have embodied in previous seasons. Men and women’s fashion has seen a run of wide leg trousers and they are continuing to go wide or go home. Some of the ultra-wide bottoms went the Yves Saint Laurent route, being cut chic, pleated, and draped with tailoring prowess of Zegna and Casablanca. Gucci and Hermès are renowned for their somewhat retro style and will throwing it back in summer 2021. For a sportier, tracksuit style head over to Rick Owens who cut enough room for two in his cargo wide cuts.

After the year we have had, we all need a break. What better staple piece to carry with you than big and bold Bermuda shorts! Whilst not traditionally displayed on runways, these non-essential but Mallorca must haves took to the stage, finishing just above the knee to remind us all that there are sunnier days ahead!
