The red curtains of Jones Auditorium set the scene for Angel Jimenez as she walks on stage to perform. Singing El Cruby Linda Ronstadt, Jimenez wows the audience. The mariachi singer holds inspiration in her heart as she puts on an award-winning performance. Every year, Alpha Sigma Alpha at Texas A&M University-Kingsville hosts the homecoming Blue and Gold talent show during homecoming week, and this year Jimenez took home the top prize. “The purpose of the university and Alpha Sigma Alpha hosting this event is to allow students in front of the university and local community,” Student Body Vice President and Alpha Sigma Alpha President Dakota Moberg said. Jimenez’s interest in mariachi music began at the age of 10, and she decided to audition for a folklorico at her middle school. “That was when I re-

ally learned about the beautiful mariachi music. My dad was also a mariachi singer and hearing his late recordings inspire me even more,” Jimenez said. Be with people who bring out the best in you, not the stress in you. During the time spent preparing for the return of the stress-free zone, this year’s turnout might have been the most successful one yet. Public relations coordinator for CAB Carmela Martinez said the event planning may have been the most challeng-

ing part but enjoyed the overwhelming support. “An event like this one is very fun and exciting. Especially being able to collaborate with other departments and achieve the goals we set for ourselves,” Martinez said. “Our mission was to allow students the opportunity to hear of the

ways to cope with stress, especially the help offered by student health and wellness.” The stress-free zone was enjoyed by hundreds of students who had the opportunity to receive free goodie bags, informative brochures and the chance to smash plates in the mobile rage room. Carolina Galaviz, a student worker at health and wellness, said the purpose of the event was to inform and inspire students on ways to overcome stress. “Student health and wellness understands that this time of year is considered the most

stressful for college students all over the country. We would like our student body at TAMUK to remember the coun-

and the outlets they are available to receive,” Galaviz said. “There were booths set up discussing the ways we should deal with stress whether it is a walk in the park or a moment of relaxation by meditating. We received a lot of great feedback and as always, look forward to the years to come.” Skyland Kapsel, an undergraduate student, said the layout of the event was strategically designed to allow students to visit each tent before experiencing the thrill of smashing a plate. “I was really excited to attend this year, especially when I heard that there would be a mobile rage room involved,” Kapsel said. “Finals week is tough but I feel more prepared than I have in past years.”

Due to the holidays and falling hard for Josh, Natalie makes a drastic decision prise him for Christmas. Unfortunately for Natalie, things are not always what they seem Josh she was talking to may have been real but certainly was not. As Natalie gets to know both Tag and Josh more during this eventful holiday season, she

may just realize who is more suitable for her than she thought before. While this movie is a cheesy rom-com, there are a few good things about it that I quite liked. Aside from all the lovey dovey aspects within a few funny and relatable scenes that make it worth watching. While the lead, Nina Dobrev, contributes to the comedy taking place, I would have to say Josh, who is played by standup comedian Jimmy O. Yang, took the cake. It was refreshing to see an actual comedian take the role instead of the cookie-cutter romcom actors that are usually cast. It can be also said the story was refreshing as it is a plot that we have not seen in a while with

a bit of a twist. Most rooutrageous and feel too unrealistic. But with Love Hard, it almost seemed was not only realistic but modern and relatable. One aspect that I believe adds to the comfort which was in a small town. In doing so, you were able to feel the closeness of not only Josh’s crazy family but how close everyone in the town is as well. Another aspect I like and have mentioned before is how relatable the plot is as we live in a world of dating online It is such a realistic scenario that can happen to anyone yet it -

My love for Bruno Mars is one that has been around for more than 10 years and will not be going away anytime soon if he keeps coming out with these bangers. Since their release of Leave the Door Open back in March of this year, Mars and .Paak. have received a lot of attention for being this year’s hottest unforeseen duo. With close to six million views, the two amazing singers were only understandably expected by fans to come out with yet another hit. However, they did one better. On Nov. 12, Silk Sonic, composed of Mars and .Paak. released their debut R&B and Soul album An Evening with Silk Sonic. The album consists of nine songs for a total of 31 minutes of straight grooves and jams. Familiar songs in the album include Leave the Door Open and Smokin Out The Window in which the duo released as singles and music videos prior to the album drop. These two songs may be the most popular amongst fans because

of their familiarity, but there are seven other songs that are just as good, maybe even better. to listen to the album because I enjoyed their singles so much to the point where I was afraid the rest of the album would not live up to my expectations and new standards for the duo, but I was quickly proven wrong. with an intro and right away the soul genre puts the listener in a feelgood mood. Another song, Fly As Me, is one of my personal favorites. It is unlike any song I’ve ever heard, especially in 2021. I am not saying songs today aren’t good, but songs like these put you mind. There is no way someone can listen to this album and feel anything but happy. The album ends with , which is perfectly planned to put fans into some sort of the greatest way to end half an hour of rhythm and soul. The best part of this album is that not a single song is the same. Each one has its own unique style yet it comes together so perfectly. The worst part is that it had to come to an end. The whole world has their eyes on you, Silk Sonic, and collectively, we thank you.

am I to deny myself the pleasure of trying these holiday drinks? Having already tried the Peppermint Mocha Frappuccino (a true delicacy and an all-time favorite by the way), I went ahead and bought myself the Toasted White Chocolate Mocha. sip, I can’t help but cringe. For one, I conis a sweet drink. The white chocolate takes over the entire drink. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good drink. The only problem is that it is really sweet. According to the Starbucks recipe, this drink contains four pumps of Toasted White Chocolate Mocha Sauce, and one drinking it. This drink also leaves you with an odd aftertaste but that is only because this drink contains espresso in it because it is a mocha.

However, this is something that can be overlooked the more sips you take. This drink also has whipped cream and holiday sugar sparkles, which is a nice touch in my opinion. Since I got a hot drink, the whipped cream melted into it and made it taste better. Overall, I rate this drink a 5/10. Again, the only issue I had with it was the fact that it was too sweet. I’m sure I will like it a lot more if I ask for less mocha sauce. You can buy these holiday drinks at both Kingsville locations, the 77.

The holidays are here which means it is time to shop for your loved ones. It is preferred to shop early as this will save you from having to pay higher prices. However, if you have not done that yet, don’t fret, you still have time if you start now. First, plan ahead and budget. This will save you so much time and money. This way, you already know what you want to get and how much it’ll be. This will also save you from impulse buying and splurging. Black Friday is near and there will be neat sales, but because we are still in a pandemic, it is encouraged that you stay safe when doing activities like these. Shopping online is will prevent you from coming in contact with fellow shoppers and it

won’t be the only one online shopping. Be on the lookout for coupons, websites like Groupon and Honey are your bests friends during times like these.

Remember, you do not have to get expensive gifts. It is the thought that counts, not the material goods. Buy things that your loved ones actually need, they will appreciate this gesture. Don’t be afraid to buy the same thing twice, if you see something several other people might enjoy, get it! Again, it is the thought that counts.

This will also cut down your shopping time. Here’s a tip, shop during the week. Stores are less likely to be packed because people are busy with school and work. You will also be able to get more things before they run out. Overall, make sure you stay safe, shop wise and have a happy holiday!

Here I go again

Astroworld tragedy A highly-anticipated weekend amongst hip-hop and rap fans became an unanticipated devastation when American rapper Travis Scott continued his popular “Astroworld Festival” concert as eight audience members died while in attendance at the famous concert festival. Unlike other singers’ concerts, this one carried on even while audience members were being trampled, safety protocols were being disregarded, fans were receiving active medical attention and desperate pleas to stop the show were ignored. The festival resulted in 10 casualties and hundreds of injuries. Ultimately, this tragedy pegs the big question: Should Travis Scott be held accountable for

what occurred at his festival? Yes he should, along with other concert organizers, considering he only encouraged fans to continue to “rage” in the wake of an unforseen disaster. Astroworld is an annual festival that takes place in Scott’s hometown, Houston, Texas. This year, however, concert goers attended one of the most-deadly music events in U.S history. It is alleged that 100,000 tickets were sold for the two-day festival and were said to have sold out in under a minute. The amount of audience members plus the lack of proper security preparation led to the accidental deadly crowd surges. dreds of attendees quickly rushed the stage, while crushing and trampling over each other, leaving little to no air to breathe or space
