On July 12, 2014 91 racers 91 racers participated in the 2nd annual Splash N Dash. The majority of racers came from the Antigo/ Langlade County area but there was also racers from Saukville, Rhinelander, Merrill, Wausau, and Sturgeon Bay; and even as far away as from Texas, California, Oregon and Colorado. Also the 1975 Blu-Gold College Female Swim Team from UW-Eau Claire came to the event and enjoyed it so much, they decided that they are going to make this an annual reunion trip and take on the Antigo Swim Club. Even though thunderstorms were predicted, Mother Nature provided an ideal day at Veterans Memorial Park with perfect water temperatures and a not too hot and humid trail run. Racers comments were very positive saying that it was a “fun, challenging course; not your usual race; and very well organized”. Racers either participated in the Long Course”, which is a ½ mile swim and 5K run or the “Short Course”, which included a ¼ mile swim and 5K run. There was also a Tandem Team division: one racer swam/one racer ran. HEALED WHILE PRAYING FOR OTHERS A few weeks ago, I was working with firewood, and I slipped and twisted my back. The rest of the week the pain was so bad that it was hard to sit, or walk, or even get out of bed. At the end of our church service, on the following Sunday, Pastor Shane Wheeler asked people who needed healing to come forward. As assistant Pastor, I went to pray for a man for healing for his hip. While praying for him, I felt a warm feeling from my thigh to the middle of my back. As I prayed for others, the Lord continued to heal me. I had a scheduled chiropractor appointment the following day, which I cancelled. My back pain is gone, Praise the Lord.

ATTENTION TOWN OF POLAR RESIDENTS Proposed Town of Polar Ordinance Will Restrict Your Rights as a Gun Owner On July 24 at 5:00pm the Town Board of Polar Township at the Polar Town Hall will hold a meeting to decide whether a new Noise Ordinance should be adopted as part of the Town Ordinances. This Ordinance would make it a violation to cause “loud or unnecessary” noises. Discharging a: “firearm, rifle, spring gun, air gun or pneumatic pellet gun” for anything else but hunting in season or for use in selfdefense would constitute a violation of this new proposed “Noise Ordinance.” If you value your rights as a gun owner make sure to attend the July 24 Town of Polar Meeting to oppose this unnecessary and inappropriate ordinance.

Here are a few things that you won’t want to miss! Sign up for the Sheep Lead Line Contest: The purpose of this contest is to promote the sheep industry and products made from wool. It’s a great way to introduce kids to 4-H and the Fair! They’ll learn about sheep and showmanship and lead a sheep around the ring, while modeling clothes made of wool. Who: Boys and Girls in Kindergarten-3rd Grade (you do not have to be a 4-H member) When: Thursday July, 24 2014 3:00pm Where: Langlade County Livestock Pavilion You do not need to bring a sheep, sheep will be provided! Health Considerations When Attending the Fair Sanitize your hands before and after you handle the animals or when entering and leaving the barns or areas where the animals are being kept. Various gastrointestinal illnesses can be acquired by unknowingly ingesting bacteria or other contaminants found in areas where animals are being kept. It is best practice to wash your hands before putting anything into your mouth (food, drink, fingers, pacifiers, etc), especially after handling or being around animals. Leave baby strollers outside the barn areas and carry small children through the barn so they do not come into contact with animal waste or infected materials such as animal bedding. Keep hydrated and stay out of the sun. Use a high rated SPF sun screen to avoid overexposure and wear a hat to keep the sun off your face. The Langlade County Health Department invites everyone to come out to the fair and see all the exhibits and animals. 41st Annual 4-H & FFA Market Animal Show and Sale
The 4-H and FFA Market Animal Committee and Langlade County Cooperative Extension System are holding the 41st Annual Market Animal Show and Sale. The swine show will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 6 p.m. and the beef and sheep show will begin Thursday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Langlade County Livestock Pavilion. The Market Animal Sale, a Fair favorite, begins Friday, July 25 at 6:30 pm at the Livestock Pavilion. Duke and Kathy Packard of North Central Sales will once again be this year’s auctioneers facilitating the bidding with local businesses for beef, swine and sheep.
