2014 Kia Cadenza: Moving upmarket with full-size entry-luxury sedan
If you still think of Kia as an econobox manufacturer, it may be time to think again. The Korean company may have begun as a low-frills automaker with little style or substance, but those days are long gone, as evidenced by its stylish mid-size Optima, trendy Sorento and Sportage CUVs and its fun Rio and Soul hatchbacks. Now Kia moves upmarket, embracing the full-size entry-luxury market with the all-new 2014 Cadenza. Kia tried luxury before, from 2003 to 2010 with its Opirus, marketed in the United States as the Amanti. A midsize, Amanti underperformed in the minds, hearts and wallets of American carbuyers, and was scratched from production. Learning from Amanti’s pitfalls, Kia is back with a larger, more powerful, more aesthetically pleasing and much more high tech and elegant entry in the entry-luxury market … the Cadenza.

sions, Kia Cadenza weighs in with a robust curbweight of 3,668 pounds, and measures 195.5 inches long, 72.8 inches wide and 58.1 inches high on a 112.-inch wheelbase with ground clearance of 5.4 inches.
Most powerful hind Cadenza, was formerly Kia engine ever chief designer at Audi. He has taken Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grille and has mixed it with elements from Kia Forte and Optima sedans and has given Cadenza broad shoulders, a contoured hood, large wheels and a wide stance for a brawny-sophisticated demeanor. Flanking the grille are quad headlights that nestle deeply behind crystalline lenses. The lower fascia is wide, and chrome trim accents around the fog lights and grille add to the vehicle’s premium presence. LED positioning lights and projection beam headlights provide additional European-like sophistication. Moving to the rear, the standard LED taillights sit high on the deck and are designed to cut across a large portion of the vehicle. The twin oval tail pipes accentuate the Cadenza’s sporty and elegant design. Reaching full-size dimen-

Producing 293 horsepower and 255 pounds-ft. of torque, the engine sounds a bit overworked at full pedal mash, and while the six-speed automatic transmission does hesitate occasionally during quick acceleration at speed, the setup is muscular and impressive, delivering a 6.2second sprint from zero to 60 mph and a quarter-mile run of 14.9 seconds. HELP SUPPORT A WOUNDED WARRIOR CORPORAL MATTHEW SHANK H&H is hosting our annual golf tournament this year for, Corporal Matthew Shank. All proceeds will be going to help assist this wounded warrior. Matthew joined the Marines 2009, and served as an Infantry Assaultman, in the United States Marine Corps. An Assaultman provides rocket fire against fortified positions in support of the rifle squads, platoons, and companies within the infantry battalion. In 2011 Matthew and his Battalion was deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan for a 7 month tour of duty. During his deployment, Matthew was on foot patrols, and some vehicle patrols. The base he was stationed at was a very small patrol base that was in a very hostile enemy territory. There were 3 lost members of this base. They were KIA, (killed in action), two of which were in his squad. June 4th 2011, Matthew’s tour was tragically cut short, when his vehicle was struck by an IED bomb (Improvised Explosive Device). Matthew was heading back to his base in a MATV, (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle). The small bridge he had to cross to arrive at the base was blown up by an IED bomb, which sent this vehicle shooting up into the air. The terrorist put an IED bomb under the bridge in a drain pipe. Then they lay in waiting for one of our patrols to cross the bridge and they ignite it destroying whatever is in its path. That is exactly what happened to Matthew and his Assaultman.

He sustained a traumatic brain injury, 5 broken vertebrae, neck injuries, a grade 3 concussion, and a few minor cuts and bruises. He was medically evacuated to Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan and within days flown to Landstuhl, Germany then to Bethesda, Maryland, for further medical treatment. He was in a back brace for 3 months, while undergoing physical therapy and trying to recover from all his injures. Matthew suffers with constant severe back pain and discomfort. He has undergone several procedures for his back but unfortunately none have helped. He was going to see a chiropractor that was helping some, but however the VA has recently cut Matthew off from seeing them any longer. Matthew was promised 100% disability but that turned out to not be true. Matthew is happily married with a 1 ½ year old daughter. He is training a dog to be his service dog to help assist him with his mobility. He struggles to maintain everyday life as he deals with the pain and injuries and supporting his family on little disability. He does work part time in his father’s Insurance business. Matthew was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon and a Purple Heart. Sad to say but he has had to end his military career and spend the last days of his enlistment in hospitals, recovering from the damages as a result of serving his country! We are hoping to be able to help this young man who willingly and honorably served his country, our country. We are asking for sponsors, donations, and or golfers to help us make this tournament a huge success. So we can show this young man how much we appreciate all he had to sacrifice for all of us to maintain our freedom and liberty.
