Party veteran quits >>>from page 1 “A lot of these votes shouldn’t have been allowed.” On Saturday, however, the party’s provincial council passed a motion effectively declaring the matter resolved. In an interview Tuesday, ONDP President Neethan Shan said a lawyer for the party had investigated the Scarborough-Guildwood nomination for members of the council, the party’s top decision-making body between conventions. “They’re satisfied, with the information provided to them, that (the proper) process was followed,” Shan said. Taylor said she was left disappointed by the party’s refusal to ask an independent body to check the work she had done. “I find it rather sad that a party I supported by volunteering and donations for 74 years has now branded me a crazy old woman,” she said Tuesday, adding she quit the NDP “heartbroken. It isn’t the party I believed in.” At the nomination meeting Taylor supported Chhabra, a union organizer who sought legal advice on taking the party to court. Chhabra later stated she was would not do this, though she continued to consider the nomination process “flawed.”

Plantings planned near creek >>>from page 1 bridge, a Bell Canada conduit and another section of pedestrian path. Hikers can usually follow the path west into Morningside Park or south to Colonel Danforth Park. The Authority determined the path could not be moved from the eroded area because there is a protected wetland just to the north. It has put up signs warning people not to use an informal trail around the fencedoff path section. It is thought planting trees in the watershed and replacing hard surfaces with granular ones will help reduce the amount of water rushing into creek during heavy rains.
