Welcome to a new year — and a new chapter — at The Roses. As we turn the page on our 50th anniversary, we’re taking a moment to celebrate everything that makes The Roses such a vital part of this community. From our first-ever street party raising funds for the charity, to our exhibition of much-loved memories, to the launch of the next phase of our creative health programme — it’s been a year to remember. Now, as we step into 2026, we look ahead with excitement and ambition. My vision for The Roses is to bring the joy of theatre to everyone across the borough. Theatre is where people come together — to laugh, cry, and share stories through music, drama, dance, and our creative community programmes. It’s also a vital part of our local economy: for every £1 spent at a theatre, and extra £.1.40 goes into the economy.
A thriving cultural scene makes our town — and region — an inspiring place to live, work and visit. The Roses is proud to play a key role in making that happen.
This season, we launch an extensive Roses Young Creatives performance programme, nurturing young talent and building skills that last a lifetime. We’re also offering a packed February half-term programme for families, our ever-popular Burns Night whiskey tasting, and an eclectic mix of live music and entertainment that you know and love. And for 2026, we’re thrilled to announce our Sleeping Beauty pantomime — a magical, fun-filled production for all ages. Thank you for continuing to support The Roses. Together, we’ll keep our community — and creativity — thriving.

True friendship is about showing up and being there through thick and thin. That’s exactly what our Friends do for The Roses.
Without the loyal support of our donors, Friends and Patrons, The Roses simply wouldn’t exist today. They are the reason our lights are on, our stage is alive and our community has a place to come together.
Unlike many theatres, we don’t receive any local government or arts council funding. This means every ticket sold, every coffee bought and every Friend signed up helps keep our doors open. And with rising costs, an ageing building to maintain and artists to support, it’s more challenging than ever.
That’s why we need Friends like you.
Becoming a Friend of The Roses isn’t just about supporting your local theatre; it’s about ensuring we continue to be a vibrant hub for entertainment, connection and creativity for years to come. And because Friends are so important to us, we’ve made our membership even better!

Virginia Woolf defied literary conventions to depict rich inner worlds — her heightened, startling and poignant reality.
Resident Choreographer
Wayne McGregor leads a luminous artistic team to evoke Woolf’s signature stream of consciousness writing style in this immense work that rejects traditional narrative structures. Woolf Works is a collage of themes from Mrs Dalloway, Orlando, The Waves and Woolf’s other writings. Created in 2015 for The Royal Ballet, this Olivier-award winning ballet triptych captures the heart of Woolf’s uniquely artistic spirit.

ROYAL BALLET
MON 9 MAR 7.15PM
The peasant girl Giselle has fallen in love with Albrecht.
When she discovers that he is actually a nobleman promised to another, she kills herself in despair. Her spirit joins the Wilis: the vengeful ghosts of women hell-bent on killing any man who crosses their path in a dance to the death. Wracked with guilt, Albrecht visits Giselle’s grave, where he must face the Wilis — and Giselle’s ghost.
Peter Wright’s 1985 production of this quintessential romantic ballet is a classic of The Royal Ballet repertory. Set to Adolphe Adam’s evocative score and with atmospheric designs by John Macfarlane, Giselle conjures up the earthly and otherworldly realms in a tale of love, betrayal and redemption.
