ody Shape is a young and promising company which has now been in business for almost a year. Its focus is on helping people control their weight because we have an incredibly high obesity rate in this country,” explained Alejandra Hernandez. She was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico: “My homeland is rich in a wide variety of herbs, and as is well known, our ancestors were doctors who knew how to use all plants, and we’ve incorporated that into Body Shape where we teach about proper eating habits and about using what nature gives us.” “In today’s market, there are many weight loss products,” said Hernandez, “but, unfortunately, clinical studies have shown that people who use said products for a long time can indeed see improvements, but that once they stop taking them they end up ‘bouncing’ back to their previous weight.” This is why Body Shape aims to take things beyond using pills and supplements. “What we want is to improve people’s health, and therefore we start with a test to know how healthy they are, and we ask that their doctor also helps us so that we can work together. Once we’ve evaluated someone’s cholesterol and glucose levels, we start the treatment with homeopathic drop-
lets to reduce their anxiety, along with several allnatural teas. The first steps for the treatment will be doing a colon cleansing, but using herbs instead of synthetic products,” said Hernandez. She continued explaining: “With this treatment we’re also creating a new activity among Latinos so that they drink more tea, something that is part of the daily routine of other communities, as is the case for those of Asian origin. Tea is a wonderful thing because it has antioxidants that help the body to get rid of toxins. Natural ingredients like cinnamon and chamomile are great for you, marshmallow plant cleanses the body and rosemary makes tissue stronger. I’m an advocate of Phytotherapy since I can combine 5 or 6 plants into a single mix for a tea, and this way their effects are more powerful and can help to cure a patient’s disease.” Hernandez acknowledged that even though Body Shape is open to all audiences, most of their clients are housewives: “This is because women are the foundation of all homes, and they’re the ones cooking all meals, which is why if they learn how to modify their diet, they can then present said information to their families. The main thing is to establish how many calories are needed by someone depending on their physical activity, and this way they can learn about the calories for each meal they eat.” Alejandra has been in the United States for 8 years now, and she lived in Houston for a few years before finally moving to Omaha. “I love this city because
it offers me a more laidback lifestyle, and this allows me to lead a healthier life. I studied about nutrition at the Veracruzana University, and I’m validating my studies for that here because I want to help more and more people to heal and get rid of their diseases by eating better meals. The program includes a healthy diet with fruit, vegetables and proteins and I also tell people to take some vitamin B12. After 6 weeks they have to take a multivitamin pill because people come here in bad shape due to their bad nutrition.” On top of this, Hernandez will also include Maderoterapia in the program: “This is a series of massages that are done with bamboo tools, and this helps to reduce cellulite by stimulating the lymphatic system, and it also helps to eliminate toxins from our body, which is why we need to drink a lot of water.” To conclude, Hernandez added: “I’ve always been close to medicine because my grandma was a midwife, and I inherited many of her traits, including her desire to help people. I’m very passionate about my job and many times I do it without getting anything in return other than knowing I can help people to lead a healthier life since people are sick because they don’t eat healthy foods.”
