T H E M A R T I N I

The exact origin of the martini is unclear. It may have been named after the Martini brand of vermouth, or it might trace back to the "Martinez Cocktail," served in the 1860s at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco.

Some claim it was created in Martinez, California, and others believe the drink evolved as it gained popularity, with the recipe first documented in Jerry Thomas’ s 1887 Bartender's Guide.

The Manhattan’ s history is debated, with one popular story crediting George Black of the Manhattan Inn in the 1860s. Black allegedly crafted the drink as a variation of the Old-Fashioned, incorporating fortified wine (vermouth). The drink grew in fame, cementing itself as a classic.
