united to form the Dominion of Canada? Today, residents and visitors to Bobcaygeon have the local Canada Day Committee to thank for what will be our biggest shindig yet. Together since 1985, the committee has had plenty of practice getting ready for our special 150th all-day birthday bash. Starting at 10 am in Tommy Anderson Park, there’ll be plenty of activities for the family, including face-painting, a fishing pond, hot dogs, balloons and prizes. Later head out to the annual Canada Day Parade, which will promenade through the downtown, beginning at 2:30. In the late afternoon, at the Bobcaygeon Community Centre, there’ll be a ceremonial cake cutting (you can’t have a birthday without cake.) and ice cream, along with entertainment, displays, bouncy castles, and balloon animals. And in the evening there’s a musical performance, followed by, you got it: FIREWORKS. So put on your red shirt and maple-leaf hat and join us in the festivities. Twenty-eight years later, it draws thousands of visitors to see fine art and craft creations of over a 100 artists in a multitude of media: oil, watercolour, acrylic, clay, metal, stone, wood, glass, leather and more—like the vivid, ethereal landscapes of contemporary Canadian artist James Goodliff (page 16).
