Merry Christmas and Happy Festivities! This Season… Mend a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Forgive an enemy. Keep a promise. Try to understand. Be kind. Think first of someone else. Show appreciation. Be generous. Be gentle. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Help someone else feel glad to be alive. Dare someone to keep trying. Spread a little cheer. Comfort a saddened heart. Choose to be happy and smile. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty of the earth. Talk to God. Go to Church. (Submitted by a reader in 2005 Author not know to us) Have a wonderful fun filled week in our beautiful Bay.

Letter via the Editor LIBRARY SERVICES NOT ESSENTIAL Over the past 30 years our Local Authority have spent hundreds and thousands of rand building and staffing 5 libraries in Bitou providing free access to information and leisure reading to our diverse and scattered communities. Now, despite professing great importance to improving reading skills, they have unilaterally made some very disturbing decisions: 1 Closing the Central Library between Christmas and New Year. Holiday makers regularly praise this library for their excellent stock; and for how much they enjoy reading while on holiday. Sorry! When you really need us we are closed! 2 Closing the New Horizons Library at the start of the school holidays-depriving that community, especially the children, to easy access to stimulating entertainment. 3 Plans to move the Central Library to the new center at New Horizons without consulting the public on this issue. The main library should surely be in the CBD as a service to the shoppers, workers and learners. Having worked as the Librarian in Plettenberg Bay from 1982 to 1998, I have experienced the immense value that the Library Services provide to all its users; and I urge the Municipality to reconsider these unilateral decisions, and ask the relevant publics to participate in discussions which would be of benefit to all. Grootbrak Grabadoo: die Tuinroete skud vere reg as bobaas hardloop- en fietsrybestemming

Vergeet van die Argus, Suikerbossie of Chapman’s Peak. Soos die Engelsman sê: “Been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.”

‘n Tydelike lisensie beloop slegs R35. Inskrywingsfooie vir verskillende afstande: Bergfiets: 55km – R85, 35km – R70, and 15km – R50.00, Padfiets: 40km – R85, and 20km – R60.00, Stap: 5km - R40.00, and 10km - R50.00. during DTI Anti-Paracy Campaign Launch. Once again Bitou played host to a high profile event that bought prominent people to our town as it hosted the anti piracy launch a department of Trade Industry campaign. The campaign led by the deputy minister of Trade Industry Ms. Thandi Tobias Pokolo, deputy minister of communication Mr. Obed Bapela and other role players in organizations that are also affected by piracy including the campaign ambassadors 999music boss Arthur Mofaketh ‘the king of kwaito’ and the gospel legend Deborah Fraser who performed a famous song Abanye bayakumbona after she warned the public not to buy fake CD`s as it kills artists. Then Bitou Mayor Lulama Mvimbi welcomed the guests. Thandi gave the backgroung of how did the campaign came about. She said they decided to bring it to Plett after Lulama had informed them while they were here with the deputy president that there are many young people who want to enter into the music industry in Plett and with the fact that Bitou is the best municipality lead by a young mayor. She also encouraged the public not to only buy American CD`s as local content benefits our economy. The Deputy minister of communication pleaded with people to stop creating markets for duplicated products as his department want to see everyone being

able to use technology without killing the creative industry. He also warned the public against phonograph and illegal downloads. After the speeches 999 music artist take on stage led by Chomee who rocked the audience with her song ’Jaiva sexy’ featuring her dancers followed by her boss Arthur who perfomed Mnike later that day. After the launch there was outreach next to KwaNokuthula taxi rank where local artists shared the stage with Deborah Fraser the likes of Sekshin, Nguking, Nicotee, dj Mjilo, Slow-Poison, Ghetto Soldiers and Woof Squad had also spread the word on this campaign as they even did it on the next day where Nicotee, Sekshin, Nguking, dj Mjilo and Bon Playaz performed in town while others were distributing brochures. I am at a loss to understand the amazing hue and cry regarding the proposed closure and relocation of the library to New Horizons. As a regular library user I admit it is very nice to just pop upstairs and browse and choose books but have people not thought of the benefits to our less privileged folk? Children being able to walk and spend afternoons in our wonderful facility; the saving taxi fares; walking distance from Kwanokuthula; and probably no more than 5 minutes drive for the rest of us and no parking frustrations! On Tuesday morning the 9 December 2010 Piesang Valley Hall was packed with very excited old people from all over the the Bitou area. As Una Peterson from the Department of Social Development said, “ What a beautiful sea of faces”. This event which happens every year for the elderly was attended by the Mayor Lulama Mvimbi, Ms Noma– India Mfeketho Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ms Una Peterson Department of Social Development, The Deputy Minister of Communication Obed Bapela and other distinquished guests. Also the particular groups: The Masiqumane, Sonop, Masibambane, New Horizon and Protea Club. The pensioners morning started bright and sunny. Sammy Jansen opened the whole gathering with a prayer. As he put it,’ It`s in my nature, my culture to open this not only with a prayer but a hymn as well. The particular groups each had a spokesperson who vowed and bowed and sang their praises to the Mayor. The outstanding group as the program director Sylvia Mtshamba put it, was the Protea Group, always winning in the Golden Games. Their spokesperson Cyril Witbooi was very presentable with him being trilingual. He did his speech in Xhosa. Translating it into English and Afrikaans. A sure surprise for the mayor and his entourage. It was with his praise to the mayor for providing water whilst in a water scarce area, that the mayor informed the elderly about the Desalination Plant, the project whereby sea water can be turned into drinking water. The mayor also promised refreshments for the pensioners at every pay point every month. The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, also previously mayor for 15 years in Cape Town, encouraged the 650 elderly people present to be visible within the particular groups. ‘So, she said ,will the others be aware of your well being”. This event as usual ended on a very high note for the old people. They received their sweets things and beautiful warm blankets from the mayor. Very blessed. Jenny

Churches in Kranshoek Reconcile

Nogal in engels. “Forgive and forget, so that the Almighty God can forgive you. You can`t preach healing and you are carrying around baggage`s of grudges for years. With God everything works horizontal. On earth as it is in heaven.” Pastoor Arense was diep - so sê almal. Jenny FOR SALE Inversion table R5500, new, cell 072 515 8349

082 809 7815 Letter via the Editor On the ongoing subject of dogs on leads, as a dog owner myself I can only agree with the other subscribers who complain about dog poo being left behind. It's not only on the beaches but all over the pavements. I agree with a hefty fine for any dog owner who doesn't pick up. You don't have to pay a fortune for poo bags - just use the thin plastic bags the supermarkets give you free with milk and veggies. However, just as bad are the smokers who leave fag ends anywhere and everywhere - and this is far more dangerous to others than dog poo. There should also be a fine of R500 for anyone dropping cigarettes ends. Please take them home! As for the council, I have heard that following the decision to fine dog owners for not having dogs on leads, a new proposal is being considered that in view of all the whale poop on the beaches all whales within 1 nautical mile of the beaches must be on leads. Penguins will be next. A happy Christmas to all and a bountiful New Year. Henry Tours THE POTTER - The studio Shop with a difference! This time of the year—December / January the Humpback Whales are in the Bay.

Conservation Corner Why do humpback whales Sing ?

The first recording of the humpback whale song was made by the U.S. navy ships in the late 1950’s off Hawaii and Bermuda. However, it was not until the 1960’s that the songs were identified as coming from whales. Today, scientists use a device called a hydrophone (or underwater microphone) to record humpback whale songs so that we can learn more about their purpose and characteristics of the songs. There are multiple theories for the purpose of the whale songs. In general, researchers agree that only the males sing, and the songs are used for sexual selection. Whether it is to attract females, intimidate other males or both, is still unknown. "First, last & always we are determined to protect the welfare of children and promote their rights." Braai in aid of Zimbabwe pensioners

A very belated THANK YOU to all those who supported our annual braai held at 139 Longships. We raised a fantastic sum of R6700.00 on the day...and this was "topped up" by very generous absent friends to reach an amount of R10.000.00. I cannot thank you all enough....times are very hard for everyone at present and the fact that you all are still so willing to give to those so much less fortunate pensioners to the north of us.......this really shows the true spirit of CARING. Thanks again to all our helpers.....special mention to Neil from S & J Hiring for the donation of the delicious venison, and to Jeff and Roly for being such wonderful chefs ! Thank you Gay and Pam for the yummee icecream cones. The pensioner caps were a fitting touch Gay.......well done ! Wishing you all a truly blessed Christmas. God bless you and keep you safe until we meet again next year. Love and hugs, Roly and Patsy

If the writer of the letter made an effort to verify his/her facts before making his/her misleading views public, he/she would have established that it was in fact the ANC Youth League, through COSAS who sponsored the event Sincerely, Thomas Nqolo – Bitou Municipality

Letter via the Editor You should be a politician to work at Bitou Municipality or a well-known ANC supporter for advise and support. I won’t talk about politicians which I know little about, but raise more considerable issues of how the mayor of Plett runs things and the progress of Grade 12 learners.

I hope you realize that all schools should be treated equally and there must be no favors when it comes to Education Support, Education is important to us all and it is impossible for you to support only Murray High when it comes to Financial and promise to throw parties for them. We also come from a disadvantaged group, why are we not included? How do you think other schools should feel or react in your opinion of how you think and behave. Should we carry on living in lower class circumstances. Hope you remember that the life you have is borrowed, cause you are not promised tomorrow. People should remember you by example. A dog owner says thank you.

Where do I start? Having recently re -located to Plettenberg Bay, I got to know Jackie, Rebekah and Austin of Nuwe Plaas kennels as whilst moving, I needed a stable, safe place to keep my Boerboel and Dachshund. All the staff welcome one with a friendly smile, they are always very busy, yet make time to chat about my personal dogs and when I pop in to Nuwe Plaas, I wonder who my dogs love most, Jackie or me? I can arrive at any time of the day without notice and I cannot fault the hygiene, space and accommodation offered to my dogs at Nuwe Plaas. Then to Dr. Andre Reitz, Isabella, Dr. Jannie Naude and Alison– you are always available should my dachshund ‘Speedy’ find an excuse to form an abcess on his nose, getting stung by a bee– you will go out of your way to assist me and thus relieve the pain my dog was experiencing- ’Speedy’ has become a well known and regular patient at Ouland. Back to Nuwe Plaas– believe me I know, it takes very special people to clean, feed, water and exercise some 90 plus dogs twice or more times a day. When I arrive unexpectedly and take a walk to see where the staff are, I always hear them ’chatting’ away to each dog and they remember each dog’s name too. To all you dedicated people at Nuwe Plaas– keep up you high standard and dedication to our Canine friends, who are after all, ‘a mans best friend’. The only problem I have withNuwe Plaas, is that it is always fully booked– makes one think does it not– why? Because people always bring their dogs back again & again. To you one and all, a very big thank you and may you all have a peaceful and happy festive season. Friends of the Library Association Plettenberg Bay

Members of the Association were amazed to hear confirmation of the rumor at our AGM on the 9th November 2010, that the Library is to be incorporated into the New Horizon`s library within the next twelve months when a new library building has been completed there. There has been no public notice giving the information to the people of Plettenberg Bay that the library in town is to be closed. The Library in New Horizon is be demolished shortly. No consideration was made by the Bitou Municipality for the New Horizons` library users during the construction of this new library. It is fortunate that the Head Librarian at the Central Library, has been able to find temporary premises for a small section of this library to be housed for the 12 months or longer before the new library has been built. At the least, this will cater for some of the children who use this library after school hours. This decision has provided further evidence to the members of the Central Library that the Municipality had not given proper consideration to this matter. The Friends of the Library have seen a huge improvement in Plettenberg Bay with libraries being available to all sections of the community in all the areas and close where people live. The intention of the Municipality to close the Central Library, which has over ten thousand members seems to defeat the idea of bringing libraries to all. Central Library is a very busy library, especially at lunch time, and during the holidays. It is used by the people who work in town (from all areas of Bitou), the majority of whom do not have transport, the elderly, holiday makers, the general public and children from all our schools who use the library each afternoon for research with their school projects. It is centrally situated which

means that people can do their shopping, go to the bank, go to the doctors etc and also go to the library. SPARE SPACE Accommodation Longships Area for Malawian Gardener . A highly honest and hard working Malawian Male requires a small room with utilities. I am prepared to stand good for him and responsible for him . . Kwanokuthula Housing Beneficiaries had the most valuable Christmas present.

Bitou Municipality is still continuing with service delivery as promised. On 16 December smiles were written to the beneficiaries of more houses. The event was attended by Bitou Executive Mayor Lulama Mvimbi, his deputy Monica Seyisi, Municipal Manager Mr. L Ngoqo, and other municipal officials that included Councilor Sishuba and Lulamile Klaas the housing committee chairperson who welcomed and introduced the guests. He also complimented Lulama as he said it is very rare in other towns for the mayor to always avail him/herself for community activities. In some places people only hear of their Mayor in the News but they never saw him/her face to face, but in Plett everybody had access to have a conversation with the mayor.

I would just like to also remind everyone that the Local Police are Zero Tolerant on Drink Driving and no Alcohol is to be consumed on beaches. It would be very bad to be locked up for these offences, as there is only a periodical Court in Plett and this means you could be in jail for a few days If you are locked up and you are not a permanent resident of Plettenberg Bay. Plettenberg Bay Business Chamber

The Plett Business Chamber appreciates your continuous contribution by supporting the “Boerriebraai’s”, sponsored Golf Days and attendance at the annual AGM. At the last AGM a very capable executive committee was elected with a good blend of experience and youth. They are people who have the Business Chamber and Plettenberg Bay – Bitou at heart. The chairperson, Mike Scholtz, was re-elected and a very efficient secretary, Mariana Grobler, makes up a team of dedicated individuals whose intention is to take the Chamber to a higher level of success. To achieve the above each executive committee member was allocated a portfolio based on his professional integrity and experience. Treasury – Don McGregor & Andries du Plessis Legal – Newton van der Mescht & Ian Stoloff Fund Raising – Mariana Grobler, Andries du Plessis & Cecile Jacobs Tourism – Barries Ferreira & Loffie Malherbe Municipality – Mike Scholtz, Philip Teggin & Newton van der Mescht Development – Mike Scholtz with support from other portfolios New Business – Juan Wiese & Loffie Malherbe Accounting – Barries Ferreira & Juan Wiese 100% Chembule Herbalist call now 24 Hrs. The executive members will make themselves available to answer questions to the best of their ability and their contact number can be obtained from the secretary. The one portfolio not highlighted is the all important security aspect. It is high however on the priority list of the Chamber and all members are involved in trying to find solutions to bring the level of criminality down. One such solution is the raising of funds by the Chamber to purchase a Thermal Infrared Camera at a cost of approximately R75 000.00 The equipment would be handled by experienced people and the SAPS. This equipment will locate culprits as far away as 1.5Km and is especially helpful at night with intruders hiding in bushes or behind walls. A number of security companies, Policing Forums and the Plett Business Chamber in conjunction with the SAPS have in principal agreed to form an alliance and work in a proactive way to combat crime. For additional information contact Mike Scholtz. Finally the Business Chamber has decided to publish a news letter addressed to its members on quarterly basis. It will contain the latest detailed information on the various activities involving Council such as The Airport, Refuse removal, Water situation, Security, Planning & Development etc. We hope that the content of this letter indicates the willingness of the Plett Business Chamber to help, inform and protect the people of Bitou. We wish all a Merry Christmas, full of the joys of life, and a carefree and happy New Year and may the New Year be business peoples dream. Greetings Your Committee

SICK AND TIRED OF LOOSE & UNSTABLE DENTURES??

Letter via the Editor This letter is dedicated to all the unfortunates and ignorants that spoke out rather thoughtlessly in last weeks issue in favour of cruelty to dogs. My guess is you most probably do not own a dog or if you do it is a lap-pooch or porch monkey that never gets to run free in the great outdoors like all dogs were meant to. There is no greater pleasure for a dogowner to watch his k9 friend come alive on a beach and run like the wind with the biggest smile for miles around. A beach is a public place not private and it is not owned by anybody except nature itself. Ask any seagull, otter or baboon who unlike dogs foul where and when they please. Responsible dog owners who train their four-legged friends and pick up after them should not be subjected to such poorly thought out bylaws that practically equate to oppression and cruelty to animals. For those of you who agree with the boisterous advocates of following the law come hell or high water just let me say this. No law is above the constitution not even the bylaw that all dogs must be on a leash and thus forbidden to run free. The constitution does not allow for any form of cruelty to humans or animals. I own two dogs that were born to run and swim. They are highly trained and socialized to humans

and other animals. They run faster and longer than any human possibly could. If they are not let off their leashes to connect with mother nature they start crying, jumping and pulling like abused children. It is cruelty to animals and it is forbidden. So by all means fine us if you can catch us but we will fight you all the way and according to the latest petition we have over 100 signatures of likeminded dogowners and residents of Plett on our side. Your's truely. T-man(Taras), Minette, Rex and Bella PS: Plett will not be a favourite holiday destination for many if they are forced to leave their dog at home or decide to go somewhere more dog-friendly. Concerned dogowners always consider the needs of the public and take great care that their rights are not infringed. If only this were true

A Thought for the Week.

Luke 1:30-32a (ESV) “And the angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favour with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” Christmas is a time of celebration and festivities, a time when for a little while the stress and the anxieties of every day living are replaced by relaxing and meeting with family and friends. Although the birthday of Jesus is not a Christian feast commanded by God and in spite of the fact that this momentous event, just over 2000 years ago, did almost certainly not happen in the month of December, it is never-the-less an occasion that Christians remember with great joy. The angel, Gabriel, who appeared to Mary said that her baby's name, chosen by God, would be Jesus, which means ‘Salvation of God’. Right from the outset God made it clear that man cannot bring about his own salvation- that rightstanding with a holy God cannot be earned by living a good life and by doing good works or even practicing religion – it can only be obtained by accepting God's gift of salvation: Jesus Christ. No wonder that Paul, the apostle, years later writes these words: "Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every other name…" [Phil.2:9] John confirms this word and wrote in his gospel: "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him." [John 3:17] God's offer of salvation – remembered once again in a special way this Christmas season – is still available today, for every one and, what's more, it is free! You may come to the Lord right now and invite Him into your heart and let Him live his life in and through you. Paul adds to his previous statement in his epistle to the Philippians these sobering words: "So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue WHAT'S NEW IN PLETT - 23 DECEMBER 2010

Plettenberg Bay Dog Owners

While we agree that dogs should stay away from swimming beaches, that owners should pick up poo, etc. is seems draconian and unfair of the Municipality not to allow dogs to run free - catch balls and swim - on at lest a couple of beach areas. If you agree, please sign the petition to the Municipality that is at present with all three vets in town plus the vet shops in Market Square and confess the Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God." [Phil.2:10-11] This certainly will happen and it will include you and I; One can do this now, voluntary, by choice, or – if one ignores or rejects God's offer – one will do it later at the final judgment. Have a wonderful "Christ-feast" and a blessed 2011. Henk. GARDENENER / GENERAL FACTOTUM Fiskani Moyo has been in my employ for over five years. Letter via the Editor THE CLOSURE OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY IN PLETT Bitou Municipal Council have decided, that in twelve months time Plett’s Central Library will be closed. It will be moved to a new library, to be built in New Horizons, replacing the existing, other side of the N2. The Bitou Council have not consulted the members of Central library, the Public or given notice to this effect nor have they put up notice boards. What about batho pele? Central Library has 10 434 members. 6000 books are issued every month and been running for 70 years. Who are the users. The elderly retired folk who come to the library when they do shopping, go to the bank,

doctor, chemist and Post Office. Members of all Communities, from the Greater Plett, who work in town, use the Library, especially at lunch time. What about the children, after school, working on projects. Must they now walk the 5Km down the N2 to New Horizons? Our visitors to town also use the library. The Council now expect those members with cars, to drive to New Horizons crossing the N2.This is dangerous especially in season with all the heavy traffic. According to Provincial Library services, Libraries must be placed where full advantage can be made of them. This will not be the case if moved to New Horizons. It was never the intention, in the urban re newal project, to consolidate libraries. These are local community facilities. There are libraries in New Horizons, Kurland, Kranzhoek, Wittedrift, Kwanokuthula and Plett Central. Are they going to close the library at Kwanokuthula and make their kids walk to New Horizons, I don’t think so? This is blatant discrimination against the Elderly, children and those people from Greater Plett, who work and use the library in town. Come on, all people of Plett, let you voice be heard. Hunter’s Chef helps bring home Silver at Culinary World Cup

Every second Friday Special package deals for state dependant Pensioners and the Disabled.

Tanja Kruger, Head Chef at the esteemed Hunter’s Country House, Plettenberg Bay, part of the Hunter Hotels Group, together with seven of the country’s leading Chefs representing South Africa, has helped to bring home two silver medals at the Culinary World Cup at the recent 11th ‘Salon International de la Gastronomie’ (International Gastronomy Show) in Luxembourg. The culinary team presented their triumphant presentation in both the hot and cold kitchen categories with an enormous display of culinary art showcasing eight categories of the competition including a sugar display of over 120cm high and the preparation of 105 three-course meals in just six hours. Comments Tanja Kruger: “Luxembourg has been an experience of a lifetime and I am extremely proud to be part of the South African team and representing the Garden Route. All this experience helps to bring the culinary expertise at Hunters to even greater heights and at the same time helps me to pass on the knowledge I’ve learnt to all our Chefs. Now the work begins on ‘gold’

at the Culinary Olympics in 2012!” In addition to the team category, silver and bronze medals were achieved in the individual categories. South Africa was amongst 25 National Teams, 10 National Military Teams, 10 National Junior Teams, 10 Collective Catering Teams and many individual Chefs and Confectioners who all competed in this culinary cook off. An international jury composed of professional Chefs from all over the world judged the various works and commented on South Africa’s presentation and achievement at this World Cup as being ‘exemplary’. Financial management tips for 2011

1. Sleep on it! If you really want something, sleep on it for a night. You may find it doesn’t seem as attractive the next day! 2.How much does it cost in work time? If you’re tempted by an impulse buy, work out how long it would take you to earn that money in hours worked. So if you get paid R50/hour and it costs R1500, that’s an extra 36 hours you’ll need to work to fund it, taking into account tax. 3.Focus on your debt/savings. Work out how much longer it will take you to pay off your debt or increase your savings if you give in. To put it into perspective, if you’re saving for a holiday think ‘that costs one day in Mauritius. 4. Go food shopping just once a month & plan, plan, plan! Set a budget, write a food plan and take a calculator with you when you go food shopping. And never go when hungry, it's too tempting to overbuy. By going just once a month you’ll be less likely to buy on impulse and for convenience. Top up with milk & bread in between . 5. Leave debit/credit cards at home. Only take the cash you absolutely need with you and don't have a cash card with you to take extra out of the hole in the wall. That way, however tempted you are, you have to walk away in the end. 6. Avoid temptation! Don’t go shopping. If you don’t go to the shops, you can’t be lured by nice things. Stay at home – simple as that! If you like to while away your leisure time by going shopping, do something else instead! Keep busy and you won’t be tempted to get out your wallet. 7. For every new thing you buy, try to get rid of an old thing. If you really want to buy something new, see if you can sell something you don’t use any more to cover the cost. 8. Make a list and stick to it.

LAURENT'S PLUMBING CALL: 083 250 8669 FOR ALL YOUR PLUMBING REQUIREMENTS

Always make a shopping list before you go to the stores and see tempting goodies. Then once you’re out – don’t stray from it. 9. Keep a list of your debts/savings targets in your wallet. Every time you open your wallet for a potential purchase you’ll be reminded of why you shouldn’t be spending money. 10. Accept help. If you really need to replace something, try the charity shops or take up offers of handme-downs from friends & family. 11. Think of your credit card as a debt card. Remember until you pay it off, you're spending the bank’s money not yours. Think of it as a debt card and you might not be so hasty reaching for your wallet. 12. Challenge yourself. Make it a challenge to come up with creative nights out or in on a budget. It could be a picnic in the park or a movie night at home. Or if there’s something particular you want to buy, see how quickly you can raise the funds through extra means. 13. Start a new hobby. Spend time on a new (free) activity like running or do some volunteer work. This leaves less time for spending. 14. Pay yourself pocket money. Set up another account for bills and use this to make sure all your bills are paid. With the money left over you can pay yourself a set amount which is yours to spend as you like. 15. Collect your spare change. Stick loose change in a savings jar. You’ll be less likely to break a note to spend and once the change has built up, pay it into your account or off a credit card 16. Take a packed lunch to work – keeps you out of harm's way. It’s an old one but a good one, making a packed lunch doesn’t just stop you being tempted by expensive sandwich shops, it also keeps you from the pub or easy trips out with friends where money flows out. 17. Keep a debt diary. Write a note of when you’re likely to over spend. If you can identify trends that lead to overspending you might be able to prevent them or vent in some other way. 18. Make your own at home. Whatever your vice is, whether it’s pizza, beer or frothy cappuccinos, try making it at home for a fraction of the cost. 19. Have a no-spend day. Once or twice a week have a day where you spend nothing other than budgeted-for things. Quite often just spending once can break the cycle for the rest of the day. New South African Sport Wins International Award.

Munich Germany. Organisers of the world's biggest sporting trade fair, the ISPO, announced a new South African sporting concept as the overall winner of their innovative Brand New Awards. The sport invented in the Southern Cape by Knysna based brothers Mark and John Collins is Africa’s only submission for the award at the international expo and has its origins as a back yard contest in their home town but if the recognition from the ISPO's expert panel of 22 international jurors is anything to go by, then it could be destined to become a world sport. 360 Ball is a ball and racket sport and what makes it unique, as the name suggest, is that it is played in a circular court with no separate sides. The concept behind this dynamic game which combines elements from no fewer than 5 other global sports was adjudged good enough to head off applications from over 300 other innovations from the international sports industry. In addition to the honour of accepting the award, and the privileges that go with it, the Collins brothers and four other top players will travel to Germany to showcase this new sport to the world. Although not open to the public no fewer than 64 000 thousand sporting industry delegates from 177 countries attending the ISPO will have the chance to witness this sport finally being played out in the international arena. The public unveiling of the world's first state of the art transparent court similar to the one that will host the Munich match took place outside the funky new Turbine Boutique Hotel on Thesen Island in Knysna on the 16 of December. The court will remain there for the summer and anyone wishing to play may sign up for the Knysna

According to Rob Hill who heads up the newly established club and federation for the sport, it is the most area efficient ball sport, in terms of playing space required per player. "It's easy to learn and gives a good physical work out"; Hill, a former squash and rugby player, is a personal trainer and rates 360 Ball as the most dynamic ball sport he has ever played. "It may be a ball and racket game and have more in common with squash than any other sport but in many ways I find it similar to rugby; it's about putting your teammate into space." True to its origins, a version of the game is designed for recreational use and can be set up and played anywhere including the beach and backyards. Hill and the federation however are hoping that courts for the competitive version, which are enclosed with a transparent wall, will grace sporting facilities across the globe. Already Hill is having to field enquiries coming in from sporting agencies from Scandinavia, Germany, the UK, Australia and Canada. I was taken aback as I drove off, unfortunately I am one of those people who when threatened does not back off, I turned around and went and confronted him asking him "are you threatening me" ? more than once, and threatened to call the police, I think he was taken aback that I, a female had done that, so he backed off,. Letter via the Editor Thank You To all those inconsiderate and couldn`t care less dog owners who won`t exercise any control over their dogs on our beaches, Thank You! They go along in complete bliss of their own world not taking in account what their dogs are doing, whether poohing or confronting other controlled dogs – be they on a lead or not. Now WE are banned from our beaches because YOU. Yes, there are signs but a blind eye was imposed, but not any more. YOU will not pick up the pooh– sometimes just cover it up with your foot. Would you like to step in it? I don`t think so. You might say you are watching them, but you just don`t see what they are doing when they are far away from

you. Am I annoyed? Damn right I am, as I and many other dog owners who do the right thing are now banned. I only hope the authorities catch you, even if it is first light or after dark as you deserve what you get. Fed up small dog owner.
