MORE INFORMATION...on last week's column. The Bitou Municipality has over a considerable number of years been grappling to find alternative means of disposing of waste. The Robberg landfill site is rapidly reaching a saturation point. An option is waste by rail to Mossel Bay which entails the costly establishment of waste transfer stations. Waste 2 Power proposal seems to be the ideal solution as explained before. Environmental enhancements are as follows: Clean, inert ash available for construction uses...ferrous and non ferrous metals treated and available for re-use...Plastics granulated for recycling Glass recycled...Textiles shredded to enhance boiler fuel content. The ash generated is used to make bricks that will be sold to the building trade and will be the first organic brick sold in S.A. Over a period of approximately three years from commencing the operation the present dump site will have been cleared of all waste and would have rehabilitated the soil to the relief of many residents living in that area. The manufacturers (PTE) have built and successfully

commissioned two plants in South Africa and shipped to the UK. Both are currently in operation. A third plant is in construction and could be an ideal opportunity to view a full scale plant in operation. Plettenberg Bay, if passed by Council, would be the first in S.A to have such an advanced facility. GO FOR IT...I say. Greetings, Ald. This campaign is aimed at eradicating late registration of birth, ensuring that all citizens over the age of 16 apply and are issued with valid ID books, and ensuring that all new born are registered and issued with a birth certificate. Been rather a busy week with the animals. Continued with the daily sterilizing, removed and homed puppies, also had to euthanize a piglet, which was sick and had bad mange. Not a day goes by without some animal needing help. I have laid a charge with our Police against two men, for neglecting to take a badly injured German Shepherd for medical help, after she was hit by a car. Instead, they decided to hang her with a rope. This idea was then shelved and she was dumped very much alive, in a valley near the Compound in New Horizons. She spent a very cold night in water. Fortunately, the children reported this to me, when I was in the area the following morning. We removed her and she has now been euthanized. I very much hope this matter will reach the Courts. Thank you to everyone who supports us with our project. We are still collecting Jumble and always need food and blankets. Thank you to Dr van Reenen and Dr Laura Snyman for organizing the Money Drop. Young Actors Theatre Academy Showcase.

The 3rd term always sees the Lunchbox Theatre YATA teams creating short theatre pieces that will be shown to parents and friends at the end of the term. The YATA classes are heaps of fun and this term combines that fun with amazing creativity and team work to produce some wonderful shows at term end. Local artists impress national youth development agency chairperson.

Once again the young people from all the corners of Bitou Municipality were gathered at Piesang Valley Community Hall on the 9th July, this time for the closing ceremony of the Youth month program that was launched on the 1st of June in the same venue. The much attended event had high profile dignities such as National Youth Development Agency Chairperson Andile Lungisa who is also deputy to the famous and outspoken Julius Malema, Bitou Mayor Lulama Mvimbi, his deputy Monica Seyisi, Councillor Tanda Sishuba, and all the Municipality officials. The line up of entertainers was opened by Linda Mdena who blew away the audience with her sweet voice, the talented singer whom I watched for the very first time is from Kwanokuthula and had performed R’nB songs. I am trying to get hold of her - watch this space, There was also a praise singer “Ntuthuzelo Nqoba” who caught the audience by surprise as you know the traditional way of praise singer as they just come to the stage with no one expecting them, after the program director Lenard Jonas had announced that the mayor will come to the stage the praise singer jumped before him and grabbed the mic, and went on to praise

Mens Probus Club of Plettenberg Bay

The Mens Probus Club of Plettenberg Bay is an association for retired or semi retired professional and business men. Its aim is to promote activities which includes meetings, talks and outings providing opportunities for social contact among members and increasing the enjoyment of retirement. Currently the club meets for lunch on the third Monday of each month at The Country Crescent Hotel in Piesang Calley Road. There is normally a speaker and recent subjects have been the water crises in Plett, local policing and a talk on pilot error in flying. Special events are scheduled during the year including quiz evenings and a Xmas lunch. The atmosphere is relaxed and discussion lively. Interesting speakers are lined up for the next three months. Tshisa Talent Hots Up

Bitou artists have been battling it out in this year’s Tshisa Talent and some fiery hot performances and visual displays have been seen. The semi finals of Tshisa Talent are under way and 4 of our six finalists have already been chosen. At each venue the crowds have been out in full force to support their local talent. This Lunchbox Theatre / Bitou Tourism initiative began in May with the Lunchbox team judging over 150 artists of all ages from our Bitou communities. Only 5 artists were chosen from each community to go through to the semi finals and only one artist from each semi final is chosen to go through to the finals.
