Letter Via the Editor On Sunday evening, I was stopped in a routine road block on the N2, just passed the Natures Valley Rd. Whilst my car was being inspected, a police officer had pulled over another car infront of me. Then to my amazement, the passengers of this vehicle promptly started to throw their rubbish out the window. Expecting the officer to tell them they are committing an illegal offence and they should pick up their mess, he condoned it by kicking one of the bottles into the bush on the verge. Not one to bite my tongue, I told him that he should be setting an example. He turned to me and said SHUT UP! Not a nice experience for my children to witness. Is this behavior acceptable ??? Plett Gymnastics Club Letter via the Editor I am writing to you on behalf of the Plett Gymnastics Club, Plettenberg Bay. The club offers three different disciplines to gymnasts, namely Artistic, Trampoline and Tumbling. The Trampoline sport became very popular amongst the gymnasts and last year (2011), Four of our gymnasts (after only 6 months’ practice) represented our club at the SA Gym Games. Country Club Bowls Section News Letter February 2012 The club has made an excellent start to the year, with a good turn out of members for ‘tabs in’ and competition days. It has been very good to welcome several visitors from far and near to play over the last weeks which has added to our enjoyment and interest. Our greens have been a pleasure to play on, though the North green is still in need of attention. We began our competitive season with a ‘tabs in’ afternoon sponsored by Personal Trust. Our thanks as always to Johann van der Westhuizen acting on their behalf. Prizes were won by Fred Broderick, John Mc Mahon, Sue Broodryk, Nita Davis and Robin James, with John Jerome winning a gift box for the lucky draw for a lead, Mike Dietrich for second, Jenny Stevenson for a third and Deon Hugo for a skip. Sea horse was won by Lou Mallam followed by Rod Nimmo, Fiona Woods and Steve Rado. Our thanks to Rod and Reel, Island Diner, Look Out Deck, River Cafe and Scotty’s for their

Sad State of Affairs Part 2 The Lumen Christi Creche and Educare Centre plus the Enrichment Centre for 16 home-based creches in Kwanokuthula, were once again the target of thieves. They were broken into on Saturday and Sunday night (making it 4 times in a week!). Apart from breaking doors and windows, nothing was stolen except for 2 pockets of potatoes and meat from a forced open deep freeze. This was to feed the 120 pre-schoolers who attend the Creche, sometimes being the only solid daily meal for some of the children. The Principal and Staff, who work so hard are devastated to think that this could happen yet again. They have been informed that 2 suspects will be arrested shortly. Security measures are in the pipeline to be increased, hopefully making it "thief-proof". Plettenberg Bay - the Jewel of the Garden Route - is quickly becoming very tarnished due to the escalating crime rate. Foreign tourists are not as evident as they were a few years ago, and many shops are standing empty. Let us all work together and stamp out this evil that is ruining our town. Sylvia.

Oriented Birds Newsfeed Dear to all our readers and supporters; the previous week was not a good one for both our teams that played as we lost our encounters respectively. Our development side lost to Black Tigers F.C. 3-2 and the premier side to Ikada Sporting F.C. 2-1 last Friday. This was one of our firmly games so far as it is a huge challenge to play on Friday away; It is indeed a disadvantage to us in terms of getting all the players we need and resources too are problematic. But I thank everyone who risked their jobs and school just to make sure that we have a team to compete, I thank you guys. A Thought for the Week Rev.21:1a [BBE] And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were gone…….. I was struck by the words used by Charmaine, our wonderful editor of the What’s New in Plett and personal friend, when I read last week’s editorial. “Grumpy or smiley… we live in the most beautiful part of the world, surrounded by God’s amazing creation.” How blessed we are indeed when we look around us at the vast and beautiful ocean on the one side of our town and the majestic mountain range on the other side. I often wonder when I look at all this beauty and try to image: If this fallen, broken world is presently so beautiful, what must it be like after Christ’s return when God restores the earth to it’s original creation at

the Millennium or, even more mind boggling, when He creates the promised new Heaven and the new earth. Paul, in his first letter to the Corinthians, chapter 2, verse 9, writes: “…..as the Scripture says, What eye has not seen and ear has not heard and has not entered into the heart of man, [all that] God has prepared [made and keeps ready] for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, promptly obeying Him and gratefully recognizing the benefits he has bestowed].” [Amp.Bible] However, even though the new earth will be much more beautiful than the present one, it will be a better place to live in by far because God, in Christ, will dwell on it in the midst of His people. In the Book of Revelation, John writes: ”And there will be no more curse: and the high seat of God and of the Lamb will be there; and his servants will be worshipping him; And they will see his face; and his name will be on their brows. And there will be no more night; and they have no need of a light or of the shining of the sun; for the Lord God will give them light: and they will be ruling for ever and ever. [Rev.22:3-5] What a wonderful promise to be looking out for – a promise for all who have placed their faith [trust] in Jesus Christ. No matter what we have to endure right now, be it suffering or pain, loneliness or any other kind of hardship, there will come a day, soon, when all of that will forever pass away and when those who are believers will find eternal rest with Christ. The same John writes in Revelation, chapter 21, verse 3-4: “And there came to my ears a great voice out of the high seat, saying, See, the Tent of God is with men, and he will make his living-place with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them, and be their God. And he will put an end to all their weeping; and there will be no more death, or sorrow, or crying, or pain; for the first things have come to an end.” Are you going to be a part of that? Henk.

Letter via the Editor On Friday the 17 February I arrived home from town to find that my geyser had burst. Luckily it is on my back stoep so the water ran off into the garden but here I was without hot water and it was already 16H45. I immediately phoned my Insurance Company and explained the situation to them. By 16H55 the claim was approved and I received the claim number on my cellphone. I then phone Reg, at Home Assured, who is the agent for the insurance company, who promised me that he would be at my home at 08H30 on Saturday morning to replace the geyser. Lo and behold at 08H30 the gate buzzer rang and by 11H45 they were on their way. After all the reports of bad service I felt I had to share my wonderful experience. My vision for 2012 is to start with “Street Ministry”…..Taking the Beat to the streets. Too many children, teenagers and young adults are just wondering around… no purpose, no plans, no nothing.
