Carrie Crow & Dr. Jonathan Thiele 03.24.12 The Proposal: I was visiting Houston for Jonathan’s medical school graduation and helping him get ready to move to Denver, CO.

Jonathan invited me over for a candlelit dinner and made his specialty, tikka masala. After dinner, he blindfolded me and drove to the Houston Waterwall, where we had visited on one of our first Houston dates together. We climbed up a couple of the giant Waterwall fountain steps, and Jonathan said, “I have something to give you.” He then reached in his pocket...and pulled out a piece of chocolate (which I gladly received)! Then he got down on his knee and asked if I would marry him, and I said “Yes!” loud and clear. He presented his grandmother’s wedding ring, which happened to fit perfectly (“It’s a miracle!” as Jonathan said). Wedding planning: We were engaged for about nine months. Unfortunately, we were long-distance for most of that time, as Jonathan started medical residency in Denver, and I came to Nashville to spend time with family and plan the wedding celebrations. My mom was the best wedding planner in the world. She had already bought some magazines when I got to Nashville right after Jonathan and I were engaged. I remember I had a late flight, arriving in Nashville around 10:30 from Houston, but we stayed up until after midnight looking at bridal magazines. Pretty early on, she ordered a wedding planner/organizer, and it went with us nearly everywhere for those nine months. My mom’s attention to detail and creative ideas really shone through during this process. We had so much fun, and I loved every minute of working with her on all the preparations! My mom and I also went to the Pink Bridal show about three months after my engagement. We didn’t know what to expect, but before it was over, we had found two of our “missing pieces” at the time -the perfect photographers and DJ! We also had a great time visiting all the vendors, tasting foods, and getting some wonderful ideas. Michelle Soll, with Burlap and Brooches events, did a great job of giving us support the weekend of the wedding. She was a wonderful help in creating the look and feel of the rehearsal dinner celebration and helped with the reception set-up and schedule. Since we wanted to do so much on our own, this was the perfect balance for us of planning everything, then having professionals help when the weekend chaos started! The most important thing to us about our wedding was that it was a family celebration. After all, our parents were friends before we even knew each other. So, both our families played important roles throughout the planning and weekend celebrations (and we are so thankful!).
