THE proposal story: Andy grew up in a neighborhood behind Rocky Hill Elementary School, and during our high school days together the park at this school became one of our favorite places to walk to. Those days could not compare, though, to the day he brought me there to hang out with nothing to do after my plans to babysit “fell through.” After a little while of swinging and shooting basketball, Andy told me he wanted to read me some of a book that he was having to read for school. He said it reminded him of me. So we sat down on some rocks and he began to read. The introduction was about love and, aside from the fact that it was written very well, I had no idea Andy had written it or much more, had written it with the intention to propose! As he read further, a story began of two people and it took no time for me to realize the story was about Andy and me. Since we had dated for almost six years at that point, the story was rather lengthy, but it gave me time to calm down and take in what was about to happen. It took us back through the joys and sweet experiences we had shared in our relationship. And it also looked back at the trials that the Lord brought us through to break us and build us back up so we could know Him more and love each other in ways we never could have without the trials. The last line of the book brought us to that moment at Rocky Hill, and it was that moment that Andy asked me to be his wife. I obviously said YES and we headed off to a surprise celebration with our family and friends for the rest of the night. We loved every second of that night it could not have gone any better! Wedding Decor: My favorite part about planning our wedding was the time I got to spend with my mom. The planning part can get pretty crazy and I was just thankful that I got to do it with her. We had a lot of fun through the process. I love yellow, so I knew it would be my main color but aside from that, I really didn’t have a plan. It was very hard to find the mustardy yellow I had in mind for the bridesmaids’ dresses, but after a lot of looking, I ended up being thrilled with what we found for them. We looked for navy suits for the groomsmen but when we came up short, we ended up going with gray suits and yellow ties. I looked through pictures of flowers with Lisa Foster and decided on putting some purples, pinks, and oranges for accent colors in the flowers. One of my favorite things about our wedding ending up being our colors! Andy also surprised me with an arbor for the ceremony that he built with a couple of his groomsmen. It was beautiful! He chopped down trees from our friend’s property for wood to build it. Then a couple of my friends and Lisa Foster did the final decorative touches with greenery, flowers, and candles on the wedding day. I absolutely loved it!
