Seeing the immediate artistic potential of her custom brush designs, I was excited when she offered to put together tutorials and a very artsy brush workshop. Getting in there with paints and various art supplies (and all manner of stuff from around the house) is strangely appealing I’ve found. Some kind of throwback to being a little kid, I suppose, back when it was perfectly acceptable to get glue and paint all over ourselves. This kind of creative play is missing in the lives of many adult artists. And that’s unfortunate. Amanda creates some great brushes for the course, but I think her greatest contribution is in encouraging digital artists to break out the art supplies now and then and actually create their own unique content. And have some fun at it!

When some students introduced me to the work of Jen Maddocks, I was quite knocked at. Here was a digital content creator who was as fabulous an artist as she was a designer. I immediately began commissioning content from her for the “Awake” course, and her material has been a massive, massive hit with all of the artists. But then she went further and started creating original art of her own, showcasing her immense talents — and the inspiration she has provided can’t be overstated. We are lucky to have her in our community and MORE than lucky to have her material and tutorials here in “Awake.”

Funny how names just keep turning up. Again and again and again I kept running into the name “Tangie” and one of her resident artists “Rebecca.” Seemed that in the span of a week they popped up ten times. And the artwork being created with their material was amazing. So I knew I had to get in touch with them and see if they were interested in being hired to license content for use in the course. They were. And their material has been a huge hit every time. Endlessly inventive, and wildly proli c, Tangie and Rebecca have been turning out some of the best artistic content in the industry this past year. We’re very, very lucky to have them with us!

I think it is no secret how much I adore Teddi Rutschman, who we all know best as Foxeysquirrel ... Truly, I have found it almost overwhelming the immense generosity she exhibits week after week after week, continually crafting content for the “Awake” group, putting together tutorials whenever I am particularly delighted by one of her compositions, and just altogether enriching our community through her wonderful spirit. There is something altogether magical and enchanting in Teddi’s work, and her images never fail to inspire the other artists in the group. I think it safe to say that 2016 has been a monumental year for Teddi as a professional digital artist. It’s exciting to be part of it, and delightful to see it take shape before our eyes.
