SPOOKY CEDARS FRIGHTENINGLY FUN!

Ben, 6 and Olivia, 7, visit Spooky Cedars on Curtis Ave South (located across from the rail trail entrance). The Paris siblings had a frightful time checking out the impressive Halloween display presented by CC Alexander Real Estate Sales. “It started as a tradition in BC where I used to live,” Alexander explained. “It was so much fun I wanted to bring that magic and joy of a fun celebration to my community. ” The tradition was reborn eight years ago when she found the perfect path on her property. “I just love that families are enjoying it; it warms my heart!” County Offices Closed The exhibit is open to the public until November 1. If you visit during the evening, you experience the full effect of the spooky lights and sounds.

Media Release County of Brant
The County of Brant is pleased to welcome the Ford Motor Company of Canada distribution centre to Paris, Ontario. The new state of the art parts distribution centre at the corner of Rest Acres Road and Highway 403, will be approximately 562,000 square feet. The facility will be one of two new parts distribution centres being constructed in Ontario replacing Ford’s 900,000 sq. ft. Bramalea facility in order to improve customer satisfaction and expedite parts delivery time to dealers. “The County of Brant continues to search out and secure opportunities to stabilize and grow our local economy. This includes attracting and supporting small, medium and large businesses such as Ford,” said Mayor David Bailey. “We want to be a place where people can live, work and play all in their own community and attracting employers such as Ford, continues the County in the right direction. ” As the County continues to grow, it is important to balance the industrial, commercial and residential growth to stabilize the tax base and provide jobs for residents. To do this, the County has adopted a progressive, forward thinking approach to working with businesses. This includes a holistic approach to maintain and create new infrastructure, continually evolving the County’s economic development program and policies to attract business and collaborating with regional partners and stakeholders to ensure a positive outcome. Vicano Developments Limited was successful in negotiating a long term lease agreement with Ford to construct and lease the new Ford distribution centre on a 30 acre parcel of industrial land it owns facing Highway 403. The Vicano proposal was on a competitive basis and successfully outperformed multiple submissions from other proponents in southwestern Ontario. It’s proximity to Highway 403, speed of delivering the building and strong labour pool were all positive factors in the successful proposal. “Working with the County of Brant on this project has been a wonderful experience. The County of Brant planning approval process is streamlined, responsive and takes a pragmatic approach to the development approval process. The County of Brant really understands what it takes to attract investment to the area. All County staff involved treated this project as if it were their own. They are professional, they helped facilitate creative solutions to issues that arose, and were just very pleasant to work with. We commend County Council and County Staff in supporting economic growth in the region with its businessfriendly approach,” said Paul Vicano, Executive Vice President, Vicano Developments Limited. Construction began in May of 2021 and structural steel erection has commenced on site. Completion of the new facility is slated for December 2022.

Stunt riders Christian Martinez, Spencer Holmes and Steel Cutter mesmerized the crowd at the Paris Fairgrounds on October 10 with a thrilling performance of sky-high jumps and tricks. Continued from page 8 The Bulls & Bikes show, like many other organizations, businesses, and charities, took a major hit because of COVID-19. With no inperson events for 18 months, the charity lost 45% of its income in 2020 compared to figures from 2019. However, with just as many children diagnosed with cancer, they had to pivot their business model and come up with alternate ways to raise money. To recover, they relied heavily on online raffles: 50/50 and Catch the Ace. FOCUS ON CHARITY
The Raw Carrot Soup Enterprise

Photo and information provided by therawcarrot.com
From Social Enterprise to Social Franchise
The Raw Carrot started in 2014 as an initiative of Paris Presbyterian Church to support individuals in the congregation who were struggling to meet their basic needs. Although they were accessing the church for financial and social support, they were frustrated by their reliance on others and yet were unable to find a job to change their circumstances. Cooking soup in the church kitchen and selling it locally to provide a few jobs seemed like a great way to address this need.
In 2016, we realized the long road that we had traveled to create a successful kitchen in Paris. With an almostfinancially viable business, permanent jobs being provided, amazing impact stories from our staff members and a number of people asking when a Raw Carrot would open up their community, we were completely convinced that this was the right path. We believe that God has given us a vision to pursue this work and help others achieve the same by passing on the skills and knowledge that we learned the hard way.
In 2017, our first social franchise opened in Mt. Forest United Church with 5 more staff on ODSP, which has paved the way for replication and given us the impetus for the various partnerships that we are currently working with. Mennonite Central Committee Ontario was our 3rd partner in 2018, employing 6 folks currently and Innerkip Presbyterian Church is launched a 4th location in the fall of 2019. Two potential Raw Carrot locations are working towards starting a site and breaking down barriers to employment for people with dis(Abilities) in 2021.
