MARK DOUGLAS FLETCHER

APRIL 27, 1964 - APRIL 27, 2024

Mark went out of this world in the way he came into it, butt naked! Mark has requested that only extremely attractive women apply to be his pall bearers and he will need 6. He spent his whole life trying to pick up beautiful women and they finally need to pick him up.

As I lay here before you I can’t figure out who put this damn suit on me! I like to thank all of my family, my in laws and outlaws. I wish to have a purple coffin.

Thank You

From the family of Nyla LoomisWe would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to BETH PETTENGILL.

My Life With Cerebral Palsy

Growing up in the seventies with a disability such as Cerebral Palsy was difficult. You see, back then they didn’t have the advances in science or the knowledge they have today. Back then, a person with a mental or physical disability was shunned as outcasts by society.

My physical limitations made it bad, but, having a normal mental ability was like being trapped in your own person. Know how to do things in my mind and being able to use logic was not enough to help me do most physical tasks. I guess you could say that my biggest barrier was not my body, but the inability to get people to understand that I was capable of achieving things. I just had to do them in a different way.

My proudest moment in my life, so far, would have to be graduating from high school in 1985. Plus the fact that I started school enrolled in all special education classes to completely mainstreaming myself, with several appearances on the academic honor roll. My achievement was greater to me due to the fact that out of all my immediate family, I was the only one to graduate high school.

My other achievements include: having a poem published in a national poetry book and surviving cancer in 2004. These were important to me. All my life, I have been told by people that I could never do anything. This kept me going-plus my stubbornness and my sense of humor. Falling through the cracks of the health care system have not been an easy road to travel because the system is designed for people who are mentally handicapped rather than just physically handicapped. I have made many strides in this area also. Until recently, anyone with a primary diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy was automatically classified as being mentally retarded, but through my dedication to read people to teach other people a different way of thinking, that rule has been changed. With my form of Cerebral Palsy I am very fortunate in some ways. Besides my normal mental capability, unlike most of the people with CP, I am not bothered with having seizures. I am also able to use my left arm fully and am able to operate my mobile wheelchair.

I am currently living in a residential setting where I am able to have my independence.

All in all, the one piece of advice I can give anyone with a disability, is to strive to be your best and never give up. The world can be open to you if you just let your heart lead the way.
