While at Lutheran Hospital and when we got home the following businesses and individuals were very helpful in us adjusting to our new normal: Kroger staff; EMS Services, Woodlawn Emergency services; Paul and Michelle Shanklin at Wilson’s Towing and Transport; Eric, Brit, and Jasmine at The Tire Store; Vince Hoffman at Rochester Sale Barn; Macy Elevator; Rochester Optimist Club; Amy, Macy, Brooke, Christina and Evelyn at Woodlawn Hospital Rehab; Tracy, Addie and Shelly at Webb’s Family Pharmacy; Jane and Steve Shriver; Trinity and David Lease; Lee Ann and Tim Eizinger; Ron and Carol Robowski; Greg and Pat Mellinger; Pat Lett; Dr. Mike Boldry; Wendy Zent; Ron and Cindy Clauson; Wes and Tish Geller; Pam Overmyer; Christina Rose; Myra Moziak; Kevin Haney; Andi Schwarte; Taylor and Faith Sherk; Buddy Lowe; Shawn Kercher; Beth and Adam Smith; and for all of the many cards and prayers from others.

Akron Library displays ‘Art of the Eggshell’
After seeing pictures of Pysanky eggs on the internet, Charlotte Gerdeman became interested in the art and thought “I can do that!”
Charlotte (Strong) Gerdeman was born, raised and has lived her entire life in the Akron area. She has been creating Pysanky eggs for almost two years, and her work was recently featured in “The Art of the Egg Shell,” issue 41, which is written and published in Blackpool, England, and sold worldwide. Charlotte decorates eggs for all seasons and is willing to create special request eggs.
Pysanky is the art of “writing” on eggs (drained eggshells) with a pin head and hot wax. There are two methods: the wax embossed method, which is the method she uses; and
Authorized Dealer the wax resist method. The wax embossed method leaves the wax on the egg; but in the wax resist method, one puts wax on in a design then dips the egg in dye. This process is repeated many times, changing the dye color between each pattern or design. When the artist is done “writing,” all the wax is removed over a flame to reveal the multicolored design.
Charlotte is the daughter of Merl and Florence Strong and is the second of four siblings. She and her classmates were the first graduating class at Tippecanoe Valley High School. She met her husband, Charles, in Ohio and transplanted him to the Akron area.

Be sure to stop by the Akron Carnegie Public Library, 205 E. Rochester St., and see Gerdeman’s beautiful and uniquely-decorated eggs. They are located behind glass in the Genealogy Room on the main level of the library. They are on display for a limited time only and are available for purchase.
