FIND YOUR FOCUS Every space has a focal point and, when it comes to the front yard, that is traditionally the front door. Although you will want your walkway to offer guests a touch of the red carpet, you can add additional hardscape materials throughout the yard to complement your home’s style. Jason Bontrager with Superior Hardscapes in Middlebury, says he likes to incorporate a mix of materials to add texture and depth to a space while differentiating from other areas of the yard. If your home has a lot of natural stone, then a rustic paver may be appropriate while a more contemporary look may require something more linear and streamlined. “It really depends on what you like and what will look best with your home,” he said. “Having a 3-D rendering drawn up will help you step back and see what the finished project is going to look like before you ever get started and allows you to make any changes you need to before items are purchased and installed.” Shutterstock.com
