Serving as Legal Counsel for Parkview Health, Andrew Palmison is providing the necessary support behind the scenes that keeps departments, such as Virtual Health, the Innovation Center, digital strategy initiatives, and behavioral health service lines operating at the highest level to further their mission of providing quality care to patients and clients alike. His work in healthcare doesn’t stop there as he also serves on the Ronald McDonald House of Northeast Indiana Board as the Secretary and Chair of the Governance Committee. His involvement with RMDH is quite personal and began with the birth of his daughter.
“When you are the parent of an infant or a child and there is a sudden need for inpatient care, it is really overwhelming. I know because it happened to my family,” Palmison said. “My daughter was born in 2014 with a surprise bilateral cleft lip and palate, which necessitated NICU support for feeding. Our first reaction when we were told about the House was ‘We don’t need this. Please save a room for someone else. Someone who needs it more.’ But they insisted. So my wife stayed at the House for what would be three weeks, and we spent the days together supporting our daughter in the NICU. The House was a haven – a place to recharge physically and emotionally during those three weeks.” Palmison was not familiar with RMDH or what resources it provided to families when his daughter was admitted, but what they offered his family, the comfort and care, left him with a desire to give back. “I have been privileged to serve on the board since 2015. The House has grown significantly in that time from physical expansion to adding programming, staff, and expanding its reach,” he said. “The Kindness Kitchen is the beneficiary of tremendous community support with groups coming in to make meals for families.” Having a deep passion and commitment to care encompasses all aspects of Palmison’s work. He is able to provide support to the strategy and innovation that allows the healthcare system to evolve to meet the ever-changing needs. “The work that I do at Parkview allows me to be a part of multi-disciplinary teams of talented individuals advancing common goals toward a shared mission. It is quite fulfilling to be a part of a project from inception to fruition and be able to see the direct impact that it has on improving individual and community health,” he explained. It’s no surprise that his dedication to care and compassion extends over to his personal life where he spends his free time with his wife Meredith and their two children Eleanor (7) and Evan (4). Born in the Cleveland area, Palmison loves being physically active and sharing his childhood experiences with his own children. “We travel frequently to visit family or go to Cedar Point – a tradition for me growing up that is now getting passed along to my kids,” he said. “For now, I am the only roller coaster enthusiast in my family, but I’m hoping to change that!” a
