PALERMO GALINDO

Palermo Galindo became involved with the Greater Fort Wayne Hispanic Chamber of Commerce while attending Purdue Fort Wayne as a Graphic Design student. Also a passionate photographer, he is committed to serving the Fort Wayne community through one of the oldest chamber organizations in the area.

“I’m grateful the founders had a vision and passion to serve our Hispanic/Latino entrepreneurs and members,” he said. “I started as a member and was then elected as president for two consecutive terms. We have served many of our members and collaborated with infinite organizations and corporations.”

Galindo plans to continue with the mission of the Greater Fort Wayne Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to advocate, promote and facilitate the success of Hispanic-Latino owned businesses in Allen and surrounding counties.

“The GFWHCC board of directors strives to focus on the most effective and coordinated Hispanic/Latino business development efforts maximizing public and private sector involvement,” he explained. “This includes ensuring that Hispanic entrepreneurs have excellent access to capital, to the best educational training and technology programs, and to local business leaders who actively participate in economic planning and policy making.”

Galindo has lived in Fort Wayne for 25 years and his passion for his community is clear.

“I continue to serve and give back to the people who helped me when I was just starting and learning about the city,” he said. “I came to Fort Wayne without family and had to start from scratch. I’m grateful to the many people who provided a caring gesture, encouraging words and opportunities. It is my turn and we need more people to join me. Are you ready?”

The GFWHCC sets out to overcome various challenges—including language, access to resources, equity and inclusion—faced by the Hispanic community in our city.

“Currently, our Greater Fort Wayne Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Fort Wayne Black Chamber, the New Allen Alliance and the Greater Fort Wayne Inc. are joining forces to bridge the gaps, provide opportunities and inspire our communities to uplift Fort Wayne to be a diversified catalyst entrepreneurial city,” Galindo said. “It is an historic initiative that I’m proud to be part of.”

Raised in Mexico and moving to the United States as a teen, Galindo has a personal relationship with his work at the GFWHCC.

“Certainly, language was a barrier, acculturation was not easy, and the gastronomy was not the same,” he explained. “I witnessed all of the sacrifices and heartaches that my parents made for me to make it here and thrive.”

Galindo credits his parents for being great role models.

“My mother had a 6th grade education, but she was an entrepreneur, managed the finances well, and was adaptable to many situations. She had a gentle essence but was also a ferocious fighter,” he said. “Parkinson’s disease took her in 2009 but her remarkable spirit and teachings remain in my heart and mind every day. My father had technical schooling and was a land surveyor for most of his life. He always had a pen or pencil handy and always tried to teach me math and to solve algebra problems. I learned about politics and activism through him.”
