A new cut can take your hair game to the next level. Jade Jackson, cosmetologist and nail technician with Southwest Hair & Day Spa, said styles of yesteryear are making a comeback. For example, the retro 1960s modified shag with fringe is hot. The jawline bob, worn in blunt and jagged-edge styles will dominate lookbooks, too.

Wanting to go shorter? No worries. Jackson said pixie styles, from shagged to blunt and worn curly or straight, are having a moment. The same can be said for “the lived in french twist” reminiscent of the 1990s. Think looser rather than overly coiffed. Speaking of the 90s, she said it’s high time to embrace big scrunchies again -- much to the delight of VSCO girls.

Beyond cut, color is another way to showcase your personality and accentuate your skin tone and eyes. “Silver trends continue in many variations,” said Jackson. “We also expect to see rooted beige tones, ginger colors, fiery red and red highlights.”

For those wanting a more natural, subdued look, she said creamy chocolate browns are flattering and on-trend. Color shampoos, such as Pureology Best Blondes or Redken Graydiant, support the longevity of color, she added.

(long bob) with or without bangs can soften things up. Long stick straight hair made possible with extensions is all the rage, too.

If you’re looking to your impact with color, Fernandez said icy tones are popular, but know that these tones require a special shampoo and conditioner for upkeep. She expects to see requests for honey blonde, because it’s a warmer alternative to the platinum look made popular by Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani and the like in recent years.

Going lighter doesn’t have to mean traditional either. Soft pastels like lilac and pink haven’t lost their appeal, according to Fernandez. You can even opt for dark pastel roots to add more dimension. Caramel and copper tones, either used in all-over color or highlights, provide a noticeable yet understated look.

In general, the best cut and color combination is one that makes you feel most confident. Remember your stylist has your best interest at heart, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice. He or she can make sure you leave the salon feeling and looking like a million bucks. Own it, girl! a
