Given how reliant I am on my prescriptions, I am especially concerned about pharmacy benefit managers. Simply put, they do not care about people like me. The issues I face on a day-to-day basis are not top of mind for them. Instead, their priority is ensuring they make the most of my situation.

Currently, PBMs are compensated based on the price of medications, meaning they prefer for patients to use treatments that cost the most so they can make the most. PBMs have even prevented patients from accessing medicines their doctors recommended because it would not give them more profit gains.

For people like me, this could be devastating, which is why I am hopeful lawmakers choose to support the DRUG Act and implement PBM reform. This bill can help fix these issues and provide the necessary federal oversight and reform on PBMs that Californians need.

Man About Town

Recently, while tidying up my desk and files I came across a folder with a lot of information from Los Caballeros de Aventura, the youth diversion program I founded back in the late 1990’s early 2000.

I came across the names of a number of kids I would like to get in touch with . . . just to see how their lives turned out and to see if they need any help.

Most of these names are, I think, from San Marcos. They were then, dunno if they’re still there or not. If you are one of these “kids” or know one of them, please have

Epifanio, sister Maria and Christina * (no last name available.) Epifanio emigrated as a young boy after watching his mom die a painful death from facial cancer; later, his dad got in trouble with the law (meth) and went to prison for 14 years; he had two sisters, Maria, who cared for him, and another sister, Christina, who helped out.

We took Epi flying one day in a Cessna 172 and he had a grin from ear to ear and after his flight he said to me, “Mr. Davis I’ll never forget this day! Never!”

After so much heartache this kid had endured it was great to see him with a great big smile and

Dear Lyle,

I noticed some excitement over enjoying life for a change. the internet regarding Friedrich Gomez’s cover story “Shocking Declassified Files: 1982 UFOs Almost Started WWIII” in the July 13 edition of The Paper. The online discussions were all favorable but the “conspiracy buzz” noticed three unanswered questions. Friedrich may not be permitted to answer due to his Top Secret security status w/U.S. military operations, but if he is able, can he PLEASE answer these three unanswered queries as hotly discussed on the internet? (1) Friedrich mentions they had a nickname for UFOs or UAP but didn’t say what it was. Can he tell us that nickname? (2) At the end of Friedrich’s article he (avoids) answering if he thinks these are inter-planetary spacecraft, but, instead alludes back to what others speculate. What is his own opinion? And (3) Do our U.S. nuclear subs he mentions REALLY have that much power & how do they REALLY deter North Korea’s (constant & frightening) nuclear threats to end life here in America?

I’d like to think life smoothed out for him . . .he had more than his share of pain and trouble. Sorry, I don’t have his last name. Was from either San Marcos or Escondido. Don’t remember which . . it’s been over 20 years since I’ve sen most of these kids.

If you can help, many thanks in advance.

Lyle E. Davis, your creation of The Paper has made a better life, a better world, and created a “family” of readers with a personal connection to you, which is unheard Letters continued on page 14 ter. Little did I realize that she would grow into a fashion-model beauty and acquire so much knowledge and expertise in real estate and real estate finance. A beautiful woman with brains! And lots of both, beauty ad smarts! Laura is particularly adept at reverse mortgages and is well worth your time for a visit/ consultation. Imposter from page 3 for such a (high level) of surgical intervention.

One by one, Demara attended the dying.

Each with uncanny skill and success.

HE DID THE “IMPOSSIBLE”

On one soldier he removed a lung after a bullet had pierced through his chest cavity.

In another, it only took him 10 minutes to delicately and skillfully extract a bullet that was lodged only a quarter of an inch from the patient’s heart.

16 CONSECUTIVE (MAJOR) OPERATIONS – ALL BRILLIANTLY PERFORMED!

Through sixteen consecutive major operations, Demara, incredibly, attended each trauma case, suturing critical wounds and performing complicated chest surgeries and other major trauma procedures.

In essence, Demara – posing as a real trauma surgeon – successfully saved the lives of sixteen wounded soldiers.

All of whom never suffered any negative post-surgical complications, all examined by post medical surgeons!

Experts have said such an undertaking by the imposter, Ferdinand Demara, was tantamount to:

“Asking a Neanderthal to operate a present-day laptop computer.”

Ironically, Demara’s surgical successes would prove to be his downfall.

THE REAL DR. JOSEPH CYR EXPOSES THE IMPOSTER: FERDINAND DEMARA!

As news of Dr. Joseph Cyr (actually Ferdinand Demara in disguise) reached heroic proportions in the Canadian newspapers, the real Dr. Joseph C. Cyr, who was practising in New Brunswick, Canada, became increasingly perplexed.

An investigation followed and it was found that both men who shared the same name (Dr. Joseph C. Cyr), also shared the exact same years in attending the same high school, medical college and, in fact, both had identical test scores and passing grades on all medical exams, on exactly the same years!

It became obvious to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (which are both a federal and national police force in Canada) that one of these two men had to be an imposter.

DEMARA’S SUPERIOR MEDICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS LED EXPERTS TO BELIEVE

HE WAS THE REAL DR. JOSEPH CYR!

Demara’s superior medical skills and accomplishments fooled investigators that he was the real Dr. Joseph Cyr!

Demara’s heroic life-saving (delicate) and (major) surgeries aboard the Royal Canadian destroyer, the HMCS Cayuga, had made such media headlines that it seemed readily apparent to the Royal Mounties that Demara had to be the ‘real’ Dr. Joseph C. Cyr.

Fortunately, the authorities uncovered the entire charade, thus preventing any faux pas arrest and embarrassment of arresting the real Dr. Joseph Cyr!

The great imposter, Ferdinand Demara, would be exposed as a complete fake doctor. However, there remained residual complications.

Even though exposed as a charlatan, the fact remained that the sixteen soldiers were, nonetheless, spared their lives through Demara’s quick trauma surgery skills.

It remained an indelible fact: Demara, nonetheless, heroically saved many lives from certain death.

The general public was immovable in their sentiments.

The soldiers remained adamant in subsequent reunions in praising the great imposter.

Even Capt. James Plomer onboard the HMCS Cayuga, refused at first to accept the fact that Dr. Joseph C. Cyr was being impersonated by a charlatan (Ferdinand Demara) onboard his ship!

Especially after the ship’s captain had personally witnessed Demara’s successful surgical talents under wartime pressure.

Also, the fact that Demara had successfully treated Capt. Plomar’s infected tooth was of no help in convincing the ship’s Captain that Demara was – in reality -- not the true Dr. Joseph C. Cyr.

DUE TO DEMARA’S HEROICS, CANADIAN AUTHORITIES REFUSED TO CHARGE HIM UNDER THE LAW!

The fact that Demara (posing as Dr. Joseph Cyr) had actually saved the lives of sixteen wartime soldiers and received official Canadian commendations, and had already won the loyalty of his shipboard mates – even after being exposed as a fake doctor – the Royal Canadian Navy chose not to press charges against Ferdinand Demara, allowing him to return to the United States.
