KAKULANGAN— BAGONG KAKULANGAN— BAGONG UNIPORME ANG SAGOT? UNIPORME ANG SAGOT?

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) launched a new design for students’ uniform on November 22, 2022 The newly launched uniform being mentioned costs P750 00 per set, both for male and female students, and is effective for the first-year students of the A.Y. 2022-2023 onwards

THEDESTRUCTIONOFPROMOTION

THEDESTRUCTIONOFPROMOTION

Ever since the pandemic, the educational landscape of the country has changed.

Changes from the modality of learning, up to the strategies and techniques used by teachers needed to progress One of the “developments” made is the practice of “mass promotion” with the idea of “no child left behind”- which is heavily misinterpreted However, Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Secretary Alma Ruby Torio, clarified that the department does not promote said practice, and that there are no official policies supporting this Despite the absence of the policy - it is now ingrained in the country’s system Students advance without genuinely assimilating knowledge Although more noticeable in the elementary level, these circumstances does not only exist on early and secondary education, but is also evident even in the tertiary level This phenomena comes hand in hand with the rapid increase of published researches, modules and even syllabi Which may result in low quality outputs, thus affecting the quality of the succeeding papers and products

For many, it may not appear as a crisis, but according to the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), a number of students are promoted without the knowledge and skills that

they were supposed to learn in their previous level With this fact alone, the nation should be alarmed In this light, we shall see how this "policy" becomes a crisis

SO,TOWHODO SO,TOWHODO WEBLAMETHIS? WEBLAMETHIS?

No one- as this is a result of a faulty system Students are not able to process all the knowledge presented to them by their teachers with such limited time, and teachers, on the other hand, are under the indirect pressure of promoting the students for performance-based bonuses. Parents are not capable of fully supervising the education of their children, and are assuming that schools take full responsibility of their children’s schooling

It is no secret that the educational system has its issues and faults, as every system is meant to have some But if the issue continues to stay unresolved, it would result into a bigger one With the guidance of education professionals and organizations dedicated to the improvement of the system, and the initiative of the government, this could be resolved, once and for all And the phenomena of mass promotion, resulting to the production of unproductive workers could be prevented

Students, in the comment section of the actual post of the page, did not let the matter slide A huge number of sentiments from the students flooded the post

Most of the students commented; “Ang pangit ng design,” “Sana pencil cut naman iyong style ng skirt para kahit papaano magmukha silang lady hindi girl,” “Very elementary,” and such pertaining to the inability of the new design to portray the image and aura that the college students should model

But, the inappropriate design is not the sole concern of the students

There are two major concerns that rose from this matter; first, the unnecessary amount of money that the students will be spending to abide to this new requirement when they were already given prior order to provide and wear the existing PLMun uniform at the time, and second is that the launching of the

new design seemed more important as it was given more attention and focus than providing enough number of professors to efficiently cover and teach a certain number of students which was also the current issue the same time that the new design of the uniform was launched. These major concerns of the students were brought to the surface by The Pilimon Files, a page not affiliated with the Pamantasan or any organizations inside the Pamantasan

“Nauna pa lumabas ang bagong uniform kaysa prof eh Sabagay, mas madaling mag layout at magtahi kaysa maghanap ng Prof para sa mga estudyante,” stated one post on the page of The Pilimon Files. One comment says, “Sistema po ang pinapalitan, hindi ang uniform.” These sentiments from the people experiencing what they call ‘bulok na sistema’ first-hand is something that should not be neglected and put to sleep

Problems should be properly addressed Students must be given voices, and these voices must be heard

"PROBLEMS SHOULD BE "PROBLEMS SHOULD BE GIVEN APPROPRIATE GIVEN APPROPRIATE SOLUTIONS— SOLUTIONS SOLUTIONS— THAT WOULD MAKE THE THAT WOULD MAKE THE LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS LIVES OF OUR STUDENTS EASIER, LESSEN THEIR EASIER, LESSEN THEIR BURDENS, AND NOT ADD BURDENS, AND NOT ADD UP TO IT." UP TO IT."

DISARRAYED SCHEDULES = CHAOTIC SCHOOL: UNVEILING THE TURMOIL DISARRAYED SCHEDULES = CHAOTIC SCHOOL: UNVEILING THE TURMOIL

AMONG STUDENTS AMONG STUDENTS

A well-structured schedule is the backbone of any educational institution, providing students with a sense of stability and order in their academic lives However, at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun), the failure to maintain organized timetables has given rise to a series of unfortunate consequences

from disarrayed schedules at this institution must no longer be overlooked A respected educational institution should prioritize the wellbeing of its students and the quality of education The key lies in recognizing the negative impact of disorganized schedules and implementing necessary changes to create an improved environment for students to excel academically, without unnecessary disruptions from mismanaged timetables

Numerous students complained about the school's failure to provide the full examination schedule well in advance, depriving them of adequate time to prepare. Venting their frustration on the Pamantasan’s page, students expressed sentiments such as: "Just wanted to raise my concern, bakit parang ang late niyo magbigay ng schedule??? Why not release it earlier para naman may preparation kaming mga students the day before the exam?", "Maawa naman po sana tayo sa ibang irregular and working students na umaasa na makakapag release ng mas maagang schedule ng examination," and "Sana po naging considerate kayo for all the students by posting the midterm examination schedule ahead of time so that we have ample time to prioritize which subjects to review. Isn't it unfair for us?". Moreover, there were complaints that some exams were not administered on time due to a lack of exam papers, further frustrating students, particularly those juggling work and studies On a post from March 23, 2023, on the Facebook page The Pilimon Files, a student ranted, "Wala man lang consideration sa mga working student na nag-file ng leave para lang makapag midterm exam Alam niyo ba ang hirap maka-kuha at ma-approve ang leave tapos pabago-bago ang desisyon niyo" – these are just a few of many comments from frustrated students caused by disarrayed schedules given by the Pamantasan

Their sentiments on social media are filled with frustration as they express their dissatisfaction with the chaos caused by the school's failure to provide organized schedules. Additionally, this disarray negatively impacts students' academic performance and the overall quality of education at the institution

The consequences of late announcements and sudden changes in schedules for students extend far beyond mere inconvenience Heightened stress levels among students are evident as they are left scrambling to adapt to last-minute changes and constant uncertainty This stress, in turn, negatively impacts their ability to concentrate

Over the past academic year, students at PLMun have constantly witnessed and experienced the chaos caused by inconsistent and extremely delayed announcements, as well as last-minute changes in schedules. These disruptive occurrences happen far too often, affecting class schedules and examination timetables, which cause great disturbance to students, as was evident during the recently concluded school year's midterm and final examinations. and participate effectively in their studies. This lack of a meticulously planned timetable has led to many problems for students unexpected cancellations, late announcements, and sudden schedule changes have become an all-too-familiar ordeal in this school, taking a toll on students' mental well-being

This issue represents a pressing problem that demands prompt attention It is high time for the Pamantasan to acknowledge the turmoil experienced by students due to the lack of organized timetables and recognize how it affects the institution as a whole. The chaos resulting

To address this problem, the Pamantasan administration should establish improved communication channels with students, ensuring that timely and accurate information is disseminated regarding examination schedules and any changes that may occur. A standardized scheduling process, carefully planned well in advance, will help students plan their studies efficiently and reduce stress Additionally, better coordination among faculty and staff is crucial to avoid unexpected disruptions and ensure a smoother academic experience for everyone

Only through collaborative efforts and a dedication to excellence can the school reclaim its reputation as an institution that prioritizes its students' overall growth and well-being. Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa can foster an environment where students can thrive academically and reach their full potential by addressing the issue of disorganized schedules

In classrooms painted with dreams untold, Where curiosity sprouts, young and bold, Seeds of learning find fertile ground, Where minds grow, boundless and unbound. day a lesson, a precious bloom

From cradle to grave we endlessly lea Through triumphs and struggles, we disc

The world becomes our vast library, With books and experiences, diverse and Each encounter is a chapter to explor Enriching our hearts to forever adore

From equations that solve life's mysteries, To stories that echo throughout history, From art that captures the soul's devotion, To science unraveling the universe's motion. “Feminism isn't about making women strong. Women are already strong. It's about changing the way the world perceives that strength." -Geena Dunne

Our history wasn't easy on women who had to fight for their rights and still fighting for their stand in this society Moreover, there has been an evident development in achieving gender equality and women's

empowerment in today's society More female icons are rising and leading in their own field including Filipina Scientist Anne Barreto and her team who discovered the Apolaki Apolaki Caldera in 2014-2018, Tokyo 2020 Olympics Gold Medalist Haidilyn Diaz and Senator Risa Hontiveros, who is a proud health and women's right advocate, was reelected in the Senate last 2022

election

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) community joined the movement with the Gawad Parangal sa Kababaihan 2023, which took place last March 30, 2023 at the PLMun Emerald Hall. Among the awardees, is the College of Teacher Eudcation's very own professor- Dr Fermae L Tamayao, who received the Gabriela Silang Award In an interview, she shared how she got teary-eyed

while answering the questions during the selection of awardees

Being the recipient of this prestigious award, Dr. Tamayao leaves a message everyone saying, " padayon! Tuloy lang God gives the hardest battles to bravest soldiers" Indeed, just like Gabriela Silang who fearlessly fought battles stood up for everyone, Dr Tamayao is also the epitome of women with great tena and resiliency amidst life's adversities

But Dr. Tamayao was not the only woman recognized by the Pamantasan and th studentry The Pamantasan's University Student Council (USC) also conducted search for Angat Kababaihan: Top 10 Most Outstanding Woman of the Pamantasan.

And among the proud awardees were three College of Teacher Education students who are Ms Louisse Nicole C Corro from (Top 2), Ms Missy Jane A Camayo from BSED-3SCI1 (Top 4), Ms Angelica Mae L Sican from BSED-3SOC1 (Top 6), and Ms Arjhean A Biasong from BSED-2E (Top 8) The stars on the sky alligned for these women on March 31, 2023 as they were proclaimed a part of the Top 10

When interviewed, four of the candidates told the same thing, "...nung tinawag ako, I felt excited, I got butterflies in my stomach, I did not expect na matatwag 'yong pangalan ko " All of the candidates wanted to showcase and deliver their advocacy- women empowerment “I wanted to leave an impact I want to tell those younger than me that you really have to work hard, [kasi] by working hard, you gain knowledge, you expand your field,” said Corro when asked about her advocacy.

These women have successfully made their mark in history. And now carving their own chosen path in life They are now ready to stand up, speak up and take the lead.

YESS Succesfully Wraps Up Community Rolling Library YESS Succesfully Wraps Up Community Rolling Library

The Young English Students' Society celebrates as they successfully wrapped up their culminating activity, Community Rolling Library with the theme, "What time is it? It's READ O'CLOCK!". It was conducted in four (4) consecutive weeks, starting March 5 to March 26, 2023. The chosen beneficiary of the program were 30 children residing at PNR Site, Purok 2, Block 3, Bayanan, Muntinlupa City

In the first week, the children were taught the basics of hygiene and the importance of good hygiene that was led by 2nd year English students The second week was led by the 3rd year students, who prepared a story that aims to teach the beneficiaries the importance of obeying their parents In the third week, managed by the 4th year English students, the children learned about honesty, responsibility, and integrity.

In the final week of the extension program, the children received certificates, food, and gifts for completing the 4-week program The program was sponsored by Councilor Pat Boncayao, Dr. Alvin S. Sicat, Dr. Nikko Lorenz P. Lawsin, Mrs. Zyra A. Trimidal, Type C Youth on the Move, Ms Noreen Argana, and Mr Alfred Montero

The Community Rolling Library was developed through research done by the proponents from English Majors: Kimberly Gabay, Roselle Guarino, and Alexys Jaira Faz. The extension program has an objective of building community support for the students in regards to their reading and literary skill, promoting equal opportunity –ensuring chances and success to information in enhancing reading comprehension and providing relevant learning materials and resources that are obtainable by the students
