D

JOSE HOSES DOWN THE ROCKIES

By Brian Weidenbacher

avid Copperfield doesn’t hold a candle to Jose Fernandez when it comes to creating magic, excitement, and thrills. The Marlins’ ace performed his own brand of illusion, giving up only 5 hits and 1 earned run, while striking out nine and walking none in six innings of work. This masterful pitching performance, on a beautiful opening night in Miami before a record crowd of 37,116 fans, propelled the Marlins to a 10-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year was sharper than a straight razor as he dominated the Rockies with a combination of fastballs and cutters. Seventy-two of his 93 pitches found the strike zone in a dictating performance. “I wasn’t trying to throw 110 miles per hour”’ Fernandez said. “I was trying to throw strikes and get outs ….. quick outs”. He definitely did more than what was expected of him. Of his first 49 strikes, 14 were swings and misses. Fernandez became the youngest opening day starter since Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets in 1986. But Fernandez wasn’t the only hero on a night where the Marlins’ bats ripped the Colorado pitching staff for 14 hits (six for extra bases), and 10 runs. Marcell Ozuna homered as part of a three-hit night, while veteran third baseman Casey McGehee drilled two doubles and drove in four runs. Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria added three hits and knocked in another run. Slugger Giancarlo Stanton also had two hits while driving in a run, and Christian Yelich chipped in with a single and a double plating another run. Great pitching, timely hitting, and a solid defense ……. a perfect recipe manager Mike Redmond has cooked-

May 2014

up for a successful 2014 Marlins campaign. “Great crowd, great energy, the fans were into it and it was a fun night”, Redmond said. Stanton is on the verge of a “breakthrough” season. In the past four years, his batting average has never been higher than .247, and his home run production is dismal. Last season, after hitting just .227 and going yard just 3 times, Giancarlo sat out the entire month of May with a leg injury. But with a renewed interest, and a strong supporting cast around the talented right-fielder, Stanton is primed for an MVP season. He’s focused on the importance of his job and supplying the Marlins with a much needed “leadership” role. His fifth season on this team could prove to be his finest, and transform his “potential” label into a “stamp of greatness”! As of this writing, The Marlins are 5 and 2, enjoying a half-game lead in the National League East Division. Fernandez is 2-0, sporting a ridiculous 0.71 ERA, with a league leading 17 strikeouts in less than 13 innings pitched. Stanton is hitting .345 and has driven in 11 runs while scoring 7 times. And what can you say about Marcell Ozuna and his tremendous start. The guy is batting .364, and seems to be having fun. Hechavarria is hitting at a .393 clip, McGehee

is slapping the ball all over the place hitting .375, and the team, as a whole, is playing great baseball. Apparently, new hitting coach Frank Menechino has transformed this Marlin team into a run-scoring arsenal. Manager Mike Redmond said the Menechino excels at giving hitters a realistic assessment of what they’re doing and what needs to be done. “Sometimes in this game, we try to sugarcoat everything and try to always be so positive, while pumping everyone up. But, basically, you just need to hear the truth, and that’s ultimately what motivates you. Frankie is great at that”, Redmond said. Now the team will hit the road, leaving the friendly confines of Marlins Park, for their first road trip of the 2014 season. The team traveled to Washington and Philadelphia for three-game sets, before returning home to host the Nationals and Seattle. This is a different Marlins team from 2013, with a renewed dedication and a strong sense of maturity. The team is winning, scoring runs, getting great pitching, and attendance is skyhigh. It’s much too early to make predictions, but with a start like this, and the energy level at a fever-pitch, these Marlins could be on the verge of great things. Only time will tell. But if early indications mean anything, this could be a year of change for our Marlins ……. and a year that might bring another championship!

CORAL SPRINGS SPINE AND NERVE … By Dr. Craig Kuhlmeier

MULTI-TARGET DEVICE ….. FIGHTS ACHES AND PAINS

B

attling against aches and pains is “mission possible” for the M6 Robotic Class IV Laser. The unit is a totally robotized, multi-targeted device, used to treat patients suffering from numerous pathologies affecting a wide area, or localized areas, allowing for automatic applications. The laser works by employing two synchronized wavelengths of light, which transfers energy to damaged tissues at the cellular level. That light triggers metabolic reactions in the cell that stimulates healing, and reduces pain and inflammation. To be able to decrease the inflammation pathway and the swelling on a cellular level, it makes sense to decrease pain. High-intensity lasers have a photochemical effect that triggers the lymphatic system: substantially reducing swelling, inflammation, and pain. They have an analgesic effect on nerve endings. Analgesic simply means the reduction of pain. The laser amplifies pain relief. It’s high-intensity slightly, but comfortably, raises the temperature of deep tissues, micro-circulation increases and tissues receive nuch needed oxygen, water, and nutrients that facilitate healing. Micro-circulation refers to the blood supply of a small, defined area. The M6 Robotic Laser increases blood circulation wherever we use it, such as in the knee compartment. It is one way we help rehydrate the ligaments and meniscus. This reduces pain in the area, and speeds recovery of the damaged cells. Tendon and ligament injuries, herniated and bulging discs, sciatica, degenerative discs and joint conditions, neurological pain conditions, pre and post-surgical treatments, and much more are effectively treated by the M6 Robotic Laser. When a physical condition, or injury, affects mobility, or quality of life, there is one goal ….. a rapid return to every-day activities. Its use is cleared by the FDA and proven successful, as evidenced by extensive, credible studies conducted in our country’s finest institutions, including Harvard University.

As We See It…

A r e C e r t a i n Fo o d s A T h r e at O u r Pe t ’s L i ve s ?

T

oday in our fast food world, many of our foods are processed in large manufacturing plants instead of our own kitchens. These facilities are able to handle millions of pounds of a variety of foods a year, many running continuously, twenty-four hours a day. When you are handling this much food, the chances for confusion and contamination are greatly increased. In an effort to protect the general public, our government has set guidelines. One of those guidelines is for zero pathogens in select foods which also includes pet foods. Foods that are naturally raised and naturally produced are consumed by every creature on this planet without any cooking or processing. Do these foods, including raw plants and animals contain pathogens? Are E.Coli, Salmonella, and other living organisms really as dangerous as we have been led to believe? Most of these pathogens are naturally occurring organisms and are ingested by all life forms universally. If they were that harmful, wouldn’t the planet be devoid of life? Diarrhea, vomiting and gastric discomfort, usually following a meal is often diagnosed as food poisoning. These same symptoms also represent the body’s natural method of housecleaning most toxins. In fact, if you read the warning labels on most medications along with household and lawn products, these symptoms are always listed as side effects. In many cases, it is even recommended that you induce vomiting or a method of

10 OTN

May 2014

May 2014

cleansing. This is a first line of the body’s defense. A diagnosis of E Coli or Salmonella is usually made with little or no testing being done and when testing is done, just the presence of the pathogen is not an accurate confirmation of disease. In fact, most recalls are for suspected pathogen contamination and result in few people or pets being affected and no conclusive evidence of the cause. Currently, there are ongoing worldwide studies indicating that these pathogens are necessary and beneficial to sustain life itself. These pathogens actually carry nutritious body building qualities as well as neutralize and remove other dangerous toxins. So why is there urgency for all this processing and is it really safer for us? Is it better to use toxic synthetic chemicals than to consume what is produced naturally? For instance, many processors spray foods with a number of disinfectants such as chlorine. Have you ever added bleach to your favorite recipe? Animal’s bodies are designed to protect and heal themselves. Stomach acid will destroy and aid in the digestion of even the most virulent of pathogens. If however, we change that normal gastric chemistry with medications such as antacids and antibiotics, we lower the body’s defense and also the immune system. When you acquire “zero pathogens,” it means less nutritious foods. The addition of toxins, the destruction of vitamins, enzymes and nutrients make the food less beneficial and harder to digest. Even minimal processing such as grinding of meat and cutting of fruits and

vegetables accelerates oxidation that not only changes the taste but breaks down the nutrients. Synthetic nutrients and additional flavors must be added for enhancement however, this definitely lowers quality. In pet foods, many consumers are under the impression that kibble is a safer product than fresh food. Kibble is actually one of the most highly processed foods on the market with almost all the ingredients in it being processed as well. When you read the ingredient label, if you cannot buy it in the food section of your supermarket, then it’s not food or it’s processed. Some national brands are 90% or more non-food. All the additives and processing render the food as difficult to digest and actually plug up the system similar to having a clogged drain. Please realize that almost all recalls of all foods and pet foods are mostly processed brands. In conclusion, yes, the quest for pathogen free foods can potentially be fatal to our pets. We must remember that nature has provided a pretty perfect system that has worked for centuries. Can we really improve on what we were naturally given? Which choice would you trust? ONLY $20 TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS HELP BUT HAS NEVER BEEN TO A CHIROPRACTOR BEFORE (Or Hasn’t Been In a Long Time)

Dear Friend, If you’ve ever thought about going to a chiropractor but you’ve hesitated because you weren’t sure it was right for you, please read on… My name is Dr. Aliyah Stotter, I’d like to show my appreciation for the warm welcome the community has shown me by announcing May 1st - May 31st as Community Appreciation Month. It’s my way of saying THANK YOU to the people who have been so helpful and mean so much. I hope this will benefit you and yours. I’ve agreed to “giveaway” (to anybody who asks for it) $200 worth of my services for only $20. That’s Right - $20. I’ve helped many people in the Coral Springs, Parkland and North Broward area feel better and live healthier, more productive lives through chiropractic care. I would now like to introduce you to the many benefits my profession has to offer. For instance, chiropractic care may be able to help you if you’re suffering from any of the following conditions. • Migraine headaches • Lower-back pain • Sciatica • Carpal Tunnel • Neck pain • Arm Numbness • Arthritis • Herniated Discs • Degenerative Discs • “Whiplash” And a whole host of other problems, ranging from dizziness to ringing in the ears. These symptoms can be caused whenever the vertebrae in your spine are out of alignment because this “misalignment” directly affects your nervous system. Fortunately, if you’re suffering from such problems or similar conditions right now, they may be relieved or eliminated by proper chiropractic treatment (commonly called “adjustments”). So if you’ve always wanted to “check out” chiropractic care and see what it can do for you, now is the best time to do so because… Right now $20 will get you all the services I normally charge my new patients $200 for!

For a Limited Time Only

May 1st - May 31st $20.00 will get you all of the services. I normally charge new patients $200.00 for!! What does this offer include? Everything. Take a look at what you’ll get… • An in-depth private consultation about your health and well being • A chiropractic spinal examination…

• A set of specialized X-rays to determine if a misalignment in your spine is causing your pain or symptoms… (Nobody gives these kinds of X-rays FREE. They would usually cost you at least $100)… • An analysis of your X-rays and spinal exam results so we can see what needs to be done to help. • Helpful literature that shows how your body works and why you experience pain. • Answers to all your most probing questions about chiropractic care and what it can do for you... The appointment won’t take long at all. And like I said, we normally charge $200 for this (most of which just covers the cost of the set of X-rays). But now, as part of this one time offer, you can come in and find out for certain if you need chiropractic care and how it can help you eliminate the pain you’re feeling. Before you come in, though, you’ll probably want to know a little bit more about me.

MEET THE DOCTOR:

Prior to obtaining my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree at Life University in Marietta, GA, I received my bachelors of Biology degree. I am nationally and state board certified in Chiropractic and Physiotherapy. Originally from Florida, I stayed in Georgia and opened a successful chiropractic practice after graduating. I have a deep passion for and am a speaker on women’s health issues such as fibromyalgia, migraine headaches and pregnancy. I am a very proud mother of 2 beautiful sons, who are 2 years old and 4 years old. My husband and I are a great chiropractic team that work side by side in our beautiful office to help educate and bring health to our community, by utilizing the latest techniques and therapies.

DOES CHIROPRACTIC REALLY WORK

Absolutely! When you come in I’ll provide you with studies that show why chiropractic is a preferred method of treatment. But what provides the best “proof” on how well chiropractic works is what the patient says about it.

NEUROPATHY

“I have been suffering from neuropathy for about two years. One day I discovered the CSSN ad and I was so thankful. I dealt with horrible burning and discomfort all over my feet. As soon as I began my treatments, the burning wasn’t nearly as bad. Getting well has given me such a positive outlook for the future. My family is extremely happy I found help. The atmosphere in CSSN is great, everyone is kind, helpful, and provides good service. I am thankful I have finally found someone that can help you.” -God Bless, Ann Cimino Retired, Pompano Beach

STIFF NECK & LOW BACK PAIN

“Originally my stiff neck and lower back pain that was shooting down my leg brought me to Coral Springs Spine & Nerve. Within just a few treatments my neck was feeling fine. Ongoing treatment has helped my back also, and now I have full range of motion in my neck, which I did not have before treatment. One thing I have learned about lifetime wellness is that it is better to live without pain than to suffer through it. All of my symptoms have improved greatly. I don’t have a stiff neck anymore and the shooting pain down my leg is gone. I can enjoy activities with the family now. The doctors and staff are like family, and CSSN is warm and welcoming. Everyone strives to make me feel better. What has amazed me most about Chiropractic Care is that I have had chiropractic care in the past, but everyone here works together to help the patient.” -Thank You, Miriam Liebman Customer Care, Coral Springs

ARM PAIN

“Before coming to CSSN, I had arm pain for 3 months. Chiropractic care has helped lessen my pain. Now I can sleep on my left side and my stomach, which I could not do before. I used to love playing golf, but the pain in my arm stopped me from playing. Now I can play golf again. The atmosphere at CSSN is friendly and professional. What has amazed me the most about chiropractic care is the number of people that need the care and the range of ages of the patients getting chiropractic care.” -God Bless, Ann Cimino, Retired, Coral Springs

NECK PAIN & HEADACHES

“Neck pain and headaches was what brought me into Coral Springs Spine and Nerve. Chiropractic care has helped me sleep better and has decreased the pain and headaches. I can now exercise a bit better and I am able participate in more activities with my kids! I have found myself being happier and looking forward to getting better every time I come in. The atmosphere in the office is wonderful… The staff is amazing and they always make me feel like family!! It’s amazing how much the Dr.’s care about each patient.” -Thank you, Alexandra Duran, Teacher Aide, Coral Springs

GUARANTEE OF GREAT SERVICE

Obliviously we can’t guarantee results. No one can. But here is one guarantee we can give you and that’s a guarantee to give our best effort.

LIMITED TIME OFFER

Possibly the only such offer this year! Obviously, with an offer like this we can’t afford to do it for very long, so we’ve picked the month of May 1st - May 31st. If you’d like to take us up on our offer and see what chiropractic can do for you, all you have to do is call our office and set up an appointment. Call our 24-hour help line @ 954-7527373, tell the receptionist you’d like to come in for the Special Introductory Examination during the month of May 1st - May 31st. I expect to get flooded with appointments for this event, so please call me as soon as possible to be sure that you don’t miss out. Thank you so very much, and I look forward to helping you get rid of your pain so you can start living a healthier, more productive life. God Bless, Dr. Aliyah Stotter, D.C. P.S. Ignoring your pain won’t make it go away. Chiropractic care could help get rid of your pain quickly and easily. And now you have no excuse not to get started, because we’re going to give you over $200 worth of “start-up” services for only $20! This offer may never be repeated, so please don’t put it off if you’re currently in pain and need help. Now is the time to do something about it.
