in Athletic and Academic Bursaries and Awards

OCAA institutions can offer athletic scholarships and financial awards to student-athletes providing they are administered in accordance with OCAA policies and procedures. OCAA member institutions are not required to offer a specific number of scholarships or awards, nor must they offer them in every sport.

The following outlines OCAA athletic scholarship and financial award limits for student-athletes:

VARSITY INCENTIVES

•Varsity Incentives is an offer of monetary gain in the form of a scholarship, a bursary or an award where varsity participation is considered as criteria for selection.

•The maximum amount a student-athlete may receive is $1,500 per semester, not to exceed $3,000 in a calendar year (for those participating in an OCAA two-semester sport).

•Receipt of an Athletic Scholarship is dependent upon the student-athlete successfully completing the minimum number of courses or credits required for OCAA eligibility, which includes maintaining a 2.0 GPA or 60 per cent equivalent throughout the semester, and meeting all other student eligibility requirements.

•The maximum amount a student-athlete enrolled in academic upgrading may receive is $250 per semester, with a maximum award amount per calendar year not to exceed $500.

ACCOMPLISHMENT AWARDS

•Accomplishment Awards cannot be promised to a specific individual in advance, and are typically presented at the end of the academic year.

•Male and Female Athlete of the Year for each member institution may receive a financial award of up to $500 per year.

•Academic scholarships may be offered at each member institution for student-athletes achieving honours at their institution. The amount is not to exceed $250 per semester with a maximum of two awards in a calendar year; one for each the fall and winter semesters.
