Athletic Eligibility

OCAA Athletic Eligibility is the determining factor in athletic participation at the varsity level and a key factor in maximizing a student-athlete's collegiate experience. Listed below is a general outline of the requirements and is in no way a complete list of rules and regulations. For complete details, contact an Athletic Director at an OCAA institution.

Two Semester Participation

To be in good standing, a student athlete:

•Must pass 18 credits in an academic year, to be eligible to participate in the subsequent semester.

•Must pass a minimum of 6 credits in the September-December semester to be eligible for the January-April semester.

•Student athletes registered in a combination of full year and half year courses are exempt from attaining 6 credits in the September-December semester, but must be registered in a minimum of 9 credits each semester.

One Semester Participation

A student-athlete who begins play for an OCAA team in September (and only participates for one semester), must pass a minimum of either:

1)9 credits in the semester of participation;

2)18 credits over the full academic year to be eligible for the subsequent academic year.

A student-athlete, who starts participating for the first time in an academic year in January, must pass a minimum of 9 credits in that semester of participation or 18 credits before the start of the next academic year.

Note: If one passes only 6 credits in the fall, and they enroll full-time in the second semester, they must pass 12 credits between January and August 31 to be eligible for September participation. This applies to a fall sport athlete (softball, baseball, rugby, rugby sevens, soccer, golf, cross country) where the entire sport schedule is in the fall semester or to an athlete who plays a two-semester sport (badminton, volleyball, basketball) but only plays one semester because of injury, change in student status (full to part-time) or medically documented condition or injury.
