We decided to fulfil the holiday of a life time before the kids were gone. We are horse breeders (Gypsy Cobs) so I knew getting away was going to be very hard. I found the toughest part was booking the actual trip, locking it in, no going back on the idea. Then came the niggling questions ‘who was I going to trust to care for my farm and how long could I be away before I begin to fret over what is happening back home? We were able to call on extended family to stay and watch the animals. I picked the quietest time of year for a horse breeder, May and June. We had good grass, we quickly got around to setting up automated water refilling for the troughs and we knew the fences were all good. A list of emergency contacts was attached upstairs, downstairs and on the stables. Day one, we flew late-May to LA. The next flight to Seattle felt like the beginning of the real fun, a brilliant green jumped out of the landscape as we approached, the stewardess welcomed us to the beautiful Emerald City. We could see why they call it that. Seattle left a favourable impression on us, we loved it, although our sole purpose of the stopover was to sleep off the jetlag and then hop on the Golden Princess and cruise the inside passage to Alaska. We had never envisaged such a pretty and vibrant city with such laid-back country hospitality.
