’ve been married for two and a half years now – hardly a big number in the grand scheme of things, but longer than most Hollywood marriages seem to last, so I feel like I must be doing something right! I often look back on our wedding day of August 2, 2014 with fondness and warmth. It was an entirely amazing day filled with love and joy, and aside from a few hitches (including a missing Batman action figure…it’s a long story), everything went pretty much perfectly. We’d been planning it for months, of course, and it seemed at the time like there would be no end to the list of tasks, chores, and errands that needed to be taken care of before the big day. Save the dates had to be sent out, followed by invitations; dresses wanted choosing; flowers needed to be picked out; meals required sampling; and cake simply had to be tasted – and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! We spent months scouring every Target and Walmart in Calgary for matching jars to create the perfect cookie bar. Bridesmaids dedicated entire afternoons to spray-painting books a sparkly golden colour and building fun, kitschy centrepieces. Whole evenings were devoted to gluing striped bits of paper to envelopes so that our invitations matched the motif of the rest of the wedding, just in case the Canada Post workers were checking up on us. We all knew going in that planning a wedding wasn’t going to be a cakewalk, but the number of
