The tradition of the Coyote Country Christmas carried on COVID style with a “to go” complimentary turkey dinner on November 21 at the Chipman National Hall.

The event, sponsored by the Chipman Agricultural Society, was a huge success that saw just over 260 meals picked up and delivered to residents in Chipman and Lamont.

Scott Reid, President of the Chipman Agricultural Society, said, “We couldn’t have done it without all our volunteers who had a day filled with laughter and interesting stories told by some of the longtime residents.”

Volunteers, 20 in all donated nearly 200 combined hours. They helped prepare, cook, and assemble individual containers that were filled with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, cranberries, and coleslaw.

Reid also wanted to formally recognize Chipman resident Evelyn McNaughton who has made and supplied homemade buns for the turkey for the past seven years. “We offered to pay for her supplies, but she said no, this is my donation.”

All of the meals were preordered and they asked people to send only one person from their family and to pick up for their neighbours, if possible. “So we reduced the amount of people coming through the door. We had someone monitoring people at the door to make sure everyone was social distancing. The way it was set up there was only one way enter and exit. There were also a couple of volunteers delivering meals in Chipman and Lamont for people who are house bound,” stated Reid.
