The Co-operators Agency in Vegreville has been named the number one agency in all of Canada.

Todd Fournier, Insurance and Financial Advisor for the Vegreville Agency, first heard the news when the announcement came during the Western Congress in Calgary last fall.

Fournier, who took over the Vegreville agency in July of 2016, said he was “shocked, stunned and humbled” by the prestigious award. With 400 Co-operators agencies nationwide, he never expected to receive the honour of being the number one Underwriting Gains Award in Canada.

He attributes the success of the agency to his great staff and their really great clients. Currently, the Vegreville Co-operators agency has around 1,500 clients who not only reside in the Vegreville area but in communities throughout Alberta.

He also wants to let people know that Cooperators isn’t a little farm insurance company we are a big company that has that small-town feel. “I can’t emphasize enough that we’re Canadian based. That’s the thing I think we’re noticing the most, is that more we keep putting into the community, the more we keep getting out of it. It’s nice knowing we’re having a positive impact and hopefully bring some more business to Vegreville.

“We come from Regina. We come from farm roots…We do it all. Everything from home insurance to auto insurance to fire insurance to farm insurance to life insurance, RRSP’s, TFSA’s, and mutual funds as of 2021. We are a big, big book of business and we are that one-stop business for all.”

In a short while, we are just going to be Co-operators, not the Co-operators. It’s part of this new digital image we’re trying to get out to the public and let them know they can come in and do business with us, they can send an email and do business with us, and they can go on their smartphone and do business with us or they can do any of the above.

“With Vegreville as you know losing the immigration office and some of the other things that have happened to us, it’s quite the compliment not only to my staff, but to my clients who are not only dedicated to Co-operators, but I think dedicated to the overall cooperative spirit. With us being involved with the UFA, the Coop grocery store, and all these other things which are part of the cooperative style business model. It was a really nice compliment.

The office has been here in Vegreville for just around the 50-year mark. The Co-operators started as a farm insurance company in Regina, Saskatchewan 75 years ago this year.”

According to the company’s website, “Originally, the Co-operators was built by farmers to take care of themselves and their communities when traditional insurers would not meet their needs. The goal of co-operative insurance was to work with policyholders to keep them insured in good times and in bad. The same co-operative outlook gave birth to things like credit unions and firefighting services in communities across Canada.”

Today, Co-operators has over a million clients across the country, but we always stay true to our roots and to the vision of a small group of Prairie farmers in 1945.”
