I have some very exciting news to share with the parents in our constituency. I am thrilled that our government has reached an agreement with Ottawa on a $45.4 million program to help reduce the cost of childcare. Parents can start applying for the newand-improved program on August 16. This funding will ensure more working parents are able to access childcare subsidies if their child attends a licensed preschool program. Another aspect of this agreement I want to highlight is that $4 million under the Early Childhood Workforce Strategy funding will be dedicated to wage top-ups for preschool educators. This will bring these valuable educators’ wages in line with those working in daycare and out of school care. I also would like to talk about supports available for our farmers. The province-wide heatwave has been especially uncomfortable for our producers. I am thrilled Agriculture and Forestry Minister, Devin Dreeshen responded swiftly on this matter. On July 22, the ministry announced a change to the Low Yield Allowance. This is a standard part of the Production Insurance Program which was developed for situations of extreme heat and severe drought. Alberta is doubling the low yield threshold to allow for additional cereal or pulse crops to be salvaged for livestock feed. For example, the barley crop threshold will be increased from 150 to 300 kg per acre.
