The Top Two

John Anthony DeRosa News

Jen Newman Features John

Anthony DeRosa is a fourth-year journalism student who is best known for his work as the world’s greatest detective, having solved some of humanity’s most notorious cold-cases such as “Where are my glasses?” (they’re on your head) and “Am I wearing pants today?” (no). When he isn’t digging in people’s garbage looking for clues or just enjoying the pleasures of dumpster-diving, is also the news editor and resident salsa dancer at The New Paltz Oracle, presumably because his private-investigator license has yet to be validated by any major law-enforcement agency on the grounds that it is written in crayon on the back of a McDonald’s Happy Meal bag. He is friendly if scratched behind the ears and hopes to continue his descent into dementia comfortably for the remainder of his time on the Oracle staff.

Jennifer Newman spends way too much money on Frozen merchandise, but she’s okay with that life choice. She is also a fourth-year journalism major with double minors in political science and film and video studies with a concentration in production. She has four jobs which ocupate her life but in any “free time” she may be ordained by some higher power, she enjoys reading about how climate change is slowly killing us without our notice, watching Disney movies and indulging on the many fandoms she is a part of on Tumblr. Although an introvert at heart, her sarcastic and lovable personality make her an ideal companion, so it is just a matter of time before The Doctor realizes that, too. She hopes to find a career in journalism but is still frightened of joining the real world and avoids that discussion.

John Russell Hartman

A&E

John Melissa Kramer

Russell Hartman is a third-year journalism major. When he’s not working at the Oracle, he can be found watching the New York Rangers on TV, playing hockey or video games with friends, playing saxophone with his band Keys to the Moon, reading comics or eating some great food. If you want to write about arts and entertainment, contact him at rhartman@hawkmail. newpaltz.edu. LETS GO RANGERS!

Sports

Melissa Kramer is a second-year journalism major with a minor in communication studies entering her third semester as a member of The New Paltz Oracle staff. This is her first semester as sports editor and she is honored every day to do what she loves. She is extremely grateful for all of the incredible friends she has made while working at the Oracle. She is The Black Keys biggest fan and her favorite places to be are in the first row at their concerts and meeting them. They are her idols in every way. She hopes one day the science community will change the name of a group of squid to a “squad.” The New York Islanders are her favorite sports team and she hopes this is the season she gets to witness them taking home a Stanley Cup.

Theresa loves taking photographs and also likes playing tennis and doing gymnastics. She also enjoys listening to music and meeting new people. If you are interested in taking photos for The New Oracle, come to one of our weekly Paltz Oracle meetings or email Theresa at mattiat1@ hawkmail.newpaltz.edu

Mike Sheinkopf is in his fourth – or is it his fifth – year of college, studying for a BFA in painting/drawing. This is his first semester on the staff of the Oracle. A fan of comic books, movies, TV, and stand-up comedy, Mike uses his pen to tell stories, make jokes, entertain and captivate readers. Mike is ready to tackle his final semester, graduate and watch the series finale of ‘Mad Men.’ For now though, he is happy to be a part of the Oracle team and looks forward to a semester full of mad scribbling and tight deadlines.

John

Lizzie Nimetz is a second-year elementary education major with a concentration in math and a minor in English. This is her third semester with the Oracle— her second semester as a Photo Editor. Lizzie likes long walks, but not on the beach. Ew, sand. However, she does like knock-knock jokes, so make sure you tell her one if you ever see her around campus. Lizzie has a passion for photography and “capturing the moment,” but she can’t do it all on her own. If you are interesting in taking photos for The New Paltz Oracle, make sure you come to one of our weekly meetings or email Lizzie at nimetze1@hawkmail.newpaltz.edu.
