Ready or not here comes Christmas! If you’re like me yesterday was the 4th of July and we’re already preparing for Christmas! The city of O’Fallon and our surrounding community has a TON of great holiday functions and features that will really get you in the Christmas Mood. Over the upcoming weeks we will be providing a lot of information on just where to go and what to do for the best family fun during the holiday season. However, nothing gets our family in the mood more than the Christmas Tree.

November & December are times of contrast: The gray days outside herald the coming of the holidays, so we make ourselves warm and cozy inside. For many, it’s the time to think about Christmas trees. Our family has always made cutting our own tree the official start of our holiday celebration. There are plenty of Christmas tree farms to choose from! Boone’s Crossing Farm Market & Christmas tree lot– Boone’s Crossing Farm Market & Pumpkin Patch is the newest location for Summit Produce (parent company) also located in the Kirkwood Farmers’ Market. Seasonal Happenings & Family Fun If you are looking for something fun for the whole family, here are a few of our favorite things. Chanukah: Festival of Lights Missouri Botanical Garden (Dec. 2) – A traditional Jewish holiday celebration that includes festive Israeli music and dance, a menorah-lighting ceremony and Chanukah merchandise provided by local vendors and the Garden Gate Shop. Admission is included with all garden admission. Winter Celebration St Louis Art Museum (Dec. 9 – 11) -Make the season merry and bright with the Saint Louis Art Museum at Winter Celebrations. This weekend of performances, art activities, and festivities is inspired by the warmth of the season and traditions from around the world. See groups like Afriky Lolo and St. Louis Osuwa Taiko, decorate cookies with your little ones, hear traditional stories from other cultures and much more during this special two-day festival. Polar Express Train Ride Union Station (Nov. 16-Dec. 30) – All aboard for The Polar Express Train Ride at St. Louis Union Station! Lafayette Square Holiday Parlor Tour (Dec. 9) – Experience a glimpse of early Christmas holiday traditions and modern holiday collections of one of the largest collections of Victorian homes in the country. Neighborhood shops, art galleries and restaurants will be open, with many offering treats and discounts. The tour is conducted as a self-guided, open house format: attendees are welcome to visit homes in any order at any time during tour hours. If you’d like to see all of the tour homes, please allow at least three hours. All homes have several stairs leading to the entrance; we regret that we are not wheelchair accessible. Only the first floor of each home will be showcased for the parlor tour. A free trolley will be running in a loop around the neighborhood to save you a few extra steps between homes. Tickets cost $20 in Advance, $25 Day of the Tour (limited availability), and children under 12 are Free. Tickets are non-refundable. The tour is held rain or shine. Advance tickets must be picked up on Tour Day – we do not mail paper tickets. Ticket sales end at 5:00 PM on Friday, December 7. Holiday in the Park (Nov. 23-Jan.1) – This holiday season Six Flags St. Louis becomes a magical winter wonderland featuring thousands of colorful lights throughout the park, show stopping performances to get you into the Holiday spirit, and personalized meet-and-greets with Santa and his helpers. Augusta’s Candlelight Christmas Walk (Dec. 7) – A corridor of over 1,500 glowing luminaries welcomes visitors to the Augusta’s Candlelight Christmas Walk with sights, sounds and smells of ‘Christmas yesteryear’ in charming Augusta, Mo. Grinchmas (Dec. 1) – Not to let Santa have all the fun this Holiday Season the Grinch will be out spreading holiday cheer and joy and to help raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children on Saturday. For a $7 donation, participants can get their photo taken with the Grinch. Those who bring a toy donation can get a photo taken for only $5. Joining the Grinch will be the clowns from Moolah Shriners, who will offer free face-painting and balloon animals.


Steinberg Skating Rink in Forest Park (Nov. 9 through Feb. 28 – with extended holiday hours, Nov. 21 – 24 and Dec. 21 – Jan. 1, 10 a.m. – Midnight) – Always a holiday and seasonal favorite is a visit to Steinberg Ice Rink in Forest Park. It is the largest outdoor skating rink in the Midwest and is open to the public every day of the week, including holidays. Admission: All Ages & All Day Skate Admission: $7 Skate Rental: $7 (We offer hockey and figure skates, size toddler 6 thru adult 15) Passes: Season Pass: $180 (Valid everyday during the season) 10 Visit Pass: $56 (Valid for 10 visits for one individual. Shaw Park Ice Rink (Nov. 23-Feb. 18 Select Days) – Ice skaters from across the region will once again flock to Shaw Park this year to enjoy one of the few remaining outdoor ice rinks in the area. The rink offers a wonderful backdrop with the downtown Clayton skyline and the long-standing oak trees in Shaw Park.


Winterfest (Nov. 17 – Jan. 1) Enjoy ice skating with a view of the Arch. Public skating is open Thursday through Friday, from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m and Saturday and Sunday, from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. The rink will also be open Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, as well as every day between Christmas and New Years Day. In the shadow of the Gateway Arch or under its new lights, the Winterfest Ice Rink is a great winter destination with regular hours and special events November 17, 2018 – January 1, 2019! Enjoy the rink, sip hot chocolate in the renovated park, or explore the play ground. The Caravan has been touring this adaptation of A Christmas Carol since 1979. It is one of the most widely viewed productions of the Dickens tale in the nation, annually performing for over 100,000 people in over 60 cities across the country.

Winter Wonderland on Ice Show St. Peters Rec-Plex (December 7 and 8) – The best Rec-Plex solo skaters and synchronized skating teams will dazzle audiences with the beauty and skill of their original programs. This year, combine them together and take the kids to have breakfast with Santa!

TWINKLING LIGHTS Star light, Star bright first Christmas lights I see tonight! One of the most enchanting things about this time of year is all of the gorgeous captivating lighting displays. In O’Fallon and the surrounding areas you have so many options that will fill your spirit with wonder and joy. Celebration of lights O’Fallon (November 23 – December 30)- Celebration of Lights is a holiday light display held at Fort Zumwalt Park. Each scene is designed and funded by local organizations, churches and businesses. Started in 1991, the event attracts more than 10,000 vehicles each year and more than 10,000 individuals during the Old-Fashioned Holiday Stroll. On certain nights visitors may walk along the illuminated route, enjoy holiday music, visit with Santa and watch a firework show. DRIVE-THROUGH, NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED: Sunday, Tuesday (except 12/11) through Thursday, 6 – 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 6–10 p.m. Mondays: Closed to vehicle traffic – Train, Wagon and Sleigh-hayrides by advance reservation only (see below) Admission: $10 for cars; $15 for commercial vans and limousines; $1 per person on tour buses ($25 minimum)

Way of Lights (November 16-January 1, 2019) - Wintertime sparkles at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows as the Annual Way of Lights Christmas display illuminates the grounds. Since 1970, the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate have invited one and all to make the Way of Lights a part of their family tradition. This breathtaking display focuses on the birth of Christ, the one true light of the world. Way of Lights Hours: Indoor Activities 5 – 9 p.m. nightly Outdoor Light Display 5-9 p.m. nightly Closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas & New Year’s Day. (Outdoor light display will remain open.)

Winter Wonderland at Tilles Park (November 21- December 30) - Winter Wonderland is open for vehicular traffic and carriage rides every day except Mondays and Saturdays from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. Saturdays are reserved for carriage rides only. Mondays are reserved for Winter Wonderland Walk only. Hundreds of thousands of lights will adorn some of the Garden’s most iconic locations including the Climatron®, Kaeser Memorial Maze, the Central Axis and Tower Grove House. Walkways will be transformed into an explosion of visual magic, while more traditional displays will delight crowds of all ages. U.S. Bank Wild Lights at the Saint Louis Zoo (Select nights November 23 – December 30) Visitors are invited to walk through the world-renowned Saint Louis Zoo and take in a wonderland of spectacular light displays. The Brewery Lights will kick off the holidays with a public lighting ceremony on Nov. 15 at 5:30 p.m. with the help of a special guest.
