Dolphin Dip

January 1 Hundreds, maybe thousands, of people will take the plunge into the freezing Atlantic Ocean at the 18th annual Dolphin Dip on January 1. The fun begins at 11 am with entertainment and costume contests at Roland Avenue beach access in Surf City. The dip is promptly at noon. This is a free event for all ages, but please plan to purchase a t-shirt or make donation to support Share the Table. Information: Facebook: @dolphindip

Sledgehammer Beach Run

February 4 Take in the views and explore North Topsail Beach while running on the beach in either a half marathon, 10K or 5K. Presented by Marine Federal Credit Union and Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission, the Sledgehammer Race Series is held in memory of Dr. E. B. Sledge and all combat veterans. Sledge was a lifelong Marine who spent the remainder of his post war years coming to terms with what he and his fellow combatants experienced during World War II. The half-marathon course is 10.5 miles of beach and 2.6 miles on the road. The 10K and 5K courses are on the beach. Races start at 8 am, the costs are the lowest you’ll find: $25 to $55. To keep costs low, the organizers have created the option to purchase a shirt separate from registration. Register by January 26 to receive a shirt. NC Blueberry Festival Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

February 18 A fundraiser for the NC Blueberry Festival in June, the annual NC Blueberry Festival Pancake and Sausage Breakfast benefits the NC Blueberry Festival Scholarship Program.
