NE OF THE special ways in which we honor Shabbos is with the appearance and decor of the table upon which the seudos are served. All emotional and spiritual experiences in this world require a physical framework, and the Shabbos table itself, upon which the Shabbos meals, the zemiros and the divrei Torah are conducted is that medium in connecting us with the heiligkeit of the day. There is no more telling lesson that can be taught to the children about the special regard we have for Shabbos than the exhibition of the care and taste involved in preparing the Shabbos table. The Tur writes that when it comes to Shabbos we are required to enjoy the finest delicacies and wine, to wear fine clothing and to spare no expense in honoring Shabbos. He quotes the Gemara that the wealthy Yidden in Baval preserved their affluence in the merit of their efforts in honoring Shabbos. As such, we present tips and techniques to make your Shabbos table worthy of the presence of the Shabbos Queen.
