Motzei Shabbos Minhagim To keep a vestige of the kedushah of Shabbos with us throughout the upcoming work week, various minhagim and halachos are honored on Motzei Shabbos. Just as Shabbos is welcomed with licht, flames are kindled upon her leave. It is preferable to light two candles before making Havdalah, and to keep them lit until after melaveh malkah. Many keep the white tablecloths, pristinely spread throughout Shabbos, on the tables until after Havdalah or until the following morning. Chazal say that “chamin” on Motzei Shabbos brings refuah. Tzaddikim also indicate that it alleviates sadness and despair. Most of the world fulfills chamin with hot drinks. Some serve hot bread or food. New foods that were not permitted to be prepared on Shabbos but were warmed up fresh afterward also bring honor to Motzei Shabbos. Drawing well-water on Motzei Shabbos and drinking from it is beneficial for healing. The Be’er of Miriam, which rests in the waters of Teveria, makes its rounds to all wellsprings every Motzei Shabbos and confers special blessing upon their waters. Drinking well-water at this time is also said to open hearts and minds to the wisdom of Torah. To begin the new week with a mitzvah, one should fold his tallis right away. It is known to be a segulah for shalom bayis.
