Remembrance Day commemorations set R oxby Downs Returned Services League (RSL) President Jack McGuire has urged locals to take a moment to remember fallen and serving soldiers, ahead of Remembrance Day commemorations this Friday.

A ceremony will be held at the RSL Community Memorial in Richardson Place at 10.30am in respect of past and present servicemen and women. “The Returned and Services League of Australia’s (RSL) motto is ‘The price of liberty is eternal vigilance’,” Mr McGuire said recently. “Many Australians native born and migrants have by their sweat and blood preserved our national identity and in doing so have given us the greatest gift of all - our freedom to be Australian. “Be eternally vigilant.” He asked the community to

Neither she nor Mr Jury had lived in such a small town so far away from a major city before, but they both loved their time in Andamooka. “The outback has taught us so much about so much,” she said. “There’s been trials and tribulations, lots of blood, sweat and tears – literally - and we are absolutely stoked with what we have achieved, what we have learnt, and where that has lead us to in the future. “We’re so thankful to everyone who has shown us so much support.” The duo will be swapping the red dirt of Andamooka for the leafy bounds of Tasmania where they will look to undertake their next adventure. “We are moving to a small town called Goulds Country at the base of the Blue Tier Mountain,” Mr Jury said. “It’s lush and beautiful, and full of rain, giant ferns and mountain bike trials. “We have a nice piece of land hidden amongst trees and divided by a stream. We have big plans!” The announcement comes just weeks after the AYC took out the Mayor ’s Choice Award at the Brand SA Outback Regional Awards. The yacht club’s final day of 2016 trading will be Sunday, November 20, before closing over the Christmas and New Year period. It will re-open again, under the ownership of Ms Stafford and Mr Sim, in late January 2017.

Deb on the other end of fundraiser WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

O

n many occasions, local Good Samaritan Deb Price has been the organiser of fundraisers to help people in need. Now, following her brother John’s recent passing, it’s the Roxby Downs community’s turn to support the woman who has contributed so much and asked for so little. After Mrs Price missed a few weeks’ work to be with family in Adelaide, locals began rallying in

her support starting from a simple Facebook message posted by her daughter, Peta Berryman. The post has catalysed a major fundraiser, spearheaded by Thirsty Camel bottle shop manager, Jessica Launer. After putting out donation tins at the shop, Ms Launer said the support from locals has been outstanding. “Deb is always doing everything for everyone else so it is a good opportunity this time around to help her,” she said. “I am not surprised (by the donations), I was expecting there to be a big response from everyone,

knowing what Deb does. “She never asks for anything.” Ms Launer said people have been handing her $50 notes as they pass her walking down the street. After seeing the community’s response, she said she would keep the tin out for as long as possible to raise as much money as she can for Mrs Price. Ms Launer said the Thirsty Camel was not the only local business to put out a donations tin, with Mrs Price’s workplace Smokemart also attempting to raise money for her.

Premier’s Roxby visit

S

outh Australian Premier Jay Weatherill and his Country Cabinet will visit Roxby Downs on Tuesday, November 22.

Mr Weatherill plans to meet with the community at the Dunes Café at 11am that day, and will make the trip as part of a regional visit to the Central Outback which also includes Coober Pedy and Whyalla. “Country Cabinets provide the opportunity for myself and cabinet ministers to meet with communities across South Australia to discuss the opportunities and issues each region faces,” he said recently. “We’ve had some great discussions at Country Cabinets that have already

been held – and these discussions have resulted in positive outcomes for regional communities.” During the visit, locals can meet with a cabinet minister one-on-one, giving them a chance to directly raise issues prior to the public forum (register by emailing DPCBetterTogetherRSVP@sa.gov.au). Submissions for project ideas for this round of Fund My Idea Whyalla and Central Outback are now open as part of the Country Cabinet program. “This Country Cabinet is a particularly important one given the challenges Whyalla and the region more broadly are facing,” he finished.

Z Minerals’ $975 million Carrapateena copper/gold mine is one step closer to operation, with early works underway and an indigenous partnering agreement signed.

A 5.5 kilometre decline (tunnel access to the underground mine), currently under construction, was officially opened by South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill last Wednesday. Located 200 kilometres south of Olympic Dam, Carrapateena could become Australia’s largest new mine and see more than 1,000 jobs created in the construction and production phases. “Carrapateena is a world-class deposit that has the potential to trigger almost $1 billion in investment and create more than 1,000 jobs,” Mr Weatherill said. “This initial construction will

benefit communities in the north of the State, through new jobs and opportunities for supply chain businesses.” OZ Minerals also signed a landmark partnering agreement with traditional land owners, the Kokatha people, detailing how the two parties would work together on the project. “We are delighted to commence this exciting project in partnership with the Kokatha people,” OZ Minerals’ Chairman, Neil Hamilton said recently.“The robust economics of the Carrapateena project will deliver huge benefits to the community and State of South Australia.” The partnering agreement, ‘NGANAMPA PALYANKU KANYINTJAKU’, means ‘keeping the future good for all of us’ in Kokatha. “(The agreement) … encapsulates the outcome of the process

and the feelings of my community,” Kokatha Aboriginal Corporation Chairman Chris Larkin said. Carrapateena is located within the Olympic Dam copper-gold province, a magnetic belt along the eastern side of the Gawler Craton, which hosts the Prominent Hill mine, Olympic Dam and the Moonta-Wallaroo mining district. Currently in the community consultation phase, the OZ Minerals Board is expected to undertake final approvals for the project in 2017 following Pre-Feasibility and Feasibility studies. If approved, Carrapateena is expected to have an operational life of 20-plus years. Ore would be mined and crushed at the site and then transported to an offsite treatment plant for processing and global export as concentrate.

hat started as a lone vigil for local Josef Sach’s deceased father has turned into a yearly community event in Andamooka. Mr Sach’s All Souls Day event

attracted approximately 80 people this year, with some staying well into the night to remember loved ones who have passed away. The event has earnt him an Andamooka ‘Citizen’ and ‘Community Event’ of the Year Award, something he hadn’t considered when he started the celebration in 1998. “I just thought I would go and

light a candle on my dad’s grave, so I did it by myself for the first couple of years,” Mr Sach said. “While I was there I thought I would start lighting candles on a few other people’s graves and then I thought why not invite the town and that way we could have a candle on every grave. “And it has blossomed from there,

the feedback I get is people are happy it is still going and it is a really good idea.” Previous events had recorded attendances of around 120 but numbers have dropped slightly in the past few years. Mr Sach said he was happy with this year’s turn out and hoped numbers would pick up in coming years.

“I would like to see more people out there,” he said. “You don’t have to have someone buried at that cemetery, it is about all souls, you can just come down with a chair, a drink and sit and talk about love ones you have lost – it is a good release.”

rtwork, quilting and jewellery-making work shops kept attendees busy during the recent Andamooka Workshop Week.

ABOVE: The community enjoyed coming together for various workshops in at the yacht club in Andamooka recently.

“It was wonderful to have so many people come together and join in on creative projects, whether running a class or taking part,’ said Andmooka Yacht Club’s Matilda Moylan-Blaikie and Kurt Jury. According to the pair, many of the workshops ran overtime ‘because everyone was having so much fun creating.’ “The artworks and quilts, pieces of jewellery and everything that was made by everyone involved were all unique and beautiful,” they said. “Over the week it was really nice to see the differences between people in what they created.” The idea of the workshop

week was to provide a ‘fun’ way to bring new people together, and promote wellbeing in the community. “For many people it was the first time they had tried the different activities so ‘giving everything a go’ was definitely a bit of the week’s mantra,” the pair explained. “There were some pretty interesting and lovely creations to kick-off the week at the quilting workshop. “All the children had a great time making small and wonderful things for themselves or their family members with Marina lucky them!” Lauren’s Art Workshop was a highlight of the week, giving locals the chance to ‘play with different mediums’ and ‘gave everyone a chance to experiment with their artistic license, with some inspiring results!’ Ms Moylan Blaikie and Mr Jury thanked Time for Wellbeing for supporting the week, Tricia from the Andamooka Primary School local and interstate practitioners for sharing their skills.

ormer Olympic Dam Asset President Dean Dalla Valle will leave BHP Billiton at the end of March 2017, it was announced recently.

Currently the company’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr Dalla Valle began his career as a 17-year old apprentice electrician with Illawarra Coal in New South Wales. In a career spanning 40 years, he held numerous senior leadership positions across the company’s iron ore, coal and uranium businesses, before joining its executive leadership team in July last year. Locally, he joined Olympic Dam following the company’s acquisition of WMC (Western Mining Corporation) Resources in June 2015, and was later named President of the Adelaide-based uranium division. Most recently Mr Dalla Valle led BHP Billiton’s response to the Samarco dam failure in Brazil. “Dean is one of the longest-serving and most respected leaders at BHP Billiton,” said Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mackenzie. “His deep knowledge of operations, strong commercial judgement and leadership have made a major contribution to our company over four decades. “In all of his roles with BHP Billiton, starting as an apprentice electrician at Illawarra Coal, Dean has demonstrated a commitment to safety, integrity and high performance. He will be missed.” After Mr Dalla Valle’s departure, BHP Billiton will centralise the management of Samarco alongside its other major minerals non-operated joint ventures in the Minerals Americas portfolio.

Car Club all out of ‘lock’

WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

T

wo $350-$400 locks were stolen from the Roxby Downs Sporting Car Club (RDSCC) rooms and canteen recently.

Apart from the locks, only a few packets of chips and soft drinks were stolen during the robbery which took place sometime between Thursday, October 27, and Monday, October 31. “It is very ‘ordinary’ for someone to do something like this,” said a disappointed RDSCC president Chris Burggraaff.

“We’re grateful it wasn’t worse and they didn’t steal anything of value or anything important to the club.” Mr Burggraaff said this was the first time something like this had happened, and while not hard to replace, there would be time and money lost in doing so, leaving the club at a disadvantage. Local police were informed as soon as RDSCC members found the locks were missing on Monday, October 31, and Senior Sergeant Terry Boylan said the investigation is ongoing. Mr Burggraaff took to Facebook following the incident and asked the culprits to

return the locks with no questions asked. “If the locks are in anybody’s possession, they could be returned by placing them in a location where a RDSCC club member will come across them, such as on top of the gate post, at the main entrance to the motor sport facility,” his Facebook post read. “Alternatively written information that could assist in locating these locks could be provided to myself via a message, or other club members, or to the Roxby Police station, no questions asked.”

The Monitor’s new editor Amanda Hudson.

C

ommunications stalwart Amanda Hudson joined The Monitor Newspaper’s editorial team last week, taking on the job of Managing Editor.

Mrs Hudson takes over the position after the recent departure of Ryneisha Bollard, who held the role for 19 months. Mrs Hudson started her ca-

reer at 17, straight out of high school , as a cadet journalist at the Murray Valley Standard in her hometown of Murray Bridge. She then moved on to a joint public relations and editor role at the RAA’s SA Motor Magazine. She followed (now) husband Andrew north in mid-2004, setting up home in Woomera where Andrew was teaching, before moving to Roxby in mid-2007. Mrs Hudson has worked in a range of communications, community and public relations roles while living in Roxby Downs. They include Community Manager and various other public affairs roles with BHP Billiton, Roxby Council in community and communications and freelancing work with ‘mumpreneur’ and successful local business woman Laura Trotta. However, according to Mrs Hudson, community news has

always remained a key interest – and she is excited about getting back into newspapers. “I’m looking forward to getting back into news,” Mrs Hudson said on Monday. “Newspapers have always been a passion of mine. “I’m also looking forward to getting involved in the wide range of community activities and events from the other side of the coin, and getting to know those involved from a professional point of view. “And I’ll be working hard to ensure The Monitor continues to provide the community with a credible, current news source.” To discuss having an event or story covered in The Monitor, contact Mrs Hudson at editor@themonitor.com.au or call 8671 2683. Amanda lives in Roxby Downs with her husband, Andrew, and four children James (8), Max (7), Sam (3) and Luke, six months.

St Barbara’s year one students Grace and friends take part in the Pop Up Play activities recently.

“God wants everyone to be a saint - people who love him and care about others,” a school representative said. Students and teachers all honoured the holy people who have lived and died, celebrating what it

means to belong to God’s family. This included the school’s special Saints Mother Mary, Saint Barbara and Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop, who have all been canonized. The Feast of All Souls is a special day set aside by the Catholic Church to remember and pray for those who have died. Great parting gift

WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

R

eece Pedler was given a fitting parting gift last week when he received the Volunteer of the Month Aw ard for September. Mr Pedler and fiancée

Bec West left town recently to start a new conservation project, similar to Arid Recovery, in Cameron’s Corner in New South Wales. Before he left, he was recognised for his work as a volunteer with Arid Recovery, the Buffel Busters team and Outback Field Naturalists.

“My passion is for the environment and nature, I like spending time trying to improve these areas,” Mr Pedler said. “It has been a lot of fun as well, I have worked with some great people and done some really interesting things.” Mr Pedler said he wasn’t expecting to receive the award, believing there were others more deserving than himself. He said he felt honoured to receive the award, and the $100 donation he received for winning would go to Arid Recovery.

He said volunteering, especially for the Buffel Busters, had been highly rewarding and encouraged anyone thinking about a volunteer role to have a go. “I have got a lot out of my volunteer roles,” he said. “To see what I have achieved with the Buffel Busters especially, we have really changed how it (the weed) spreads. “We are getting closer to seeing major results on the affect it has and hopefully they can continue to work on containing it.”

Girls, come and get pampered! T he Roxby Downs Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) has organised an afternoon for the girls in town to enjoy some pampering and fun together – for only $10.

Girls aged 10 years and over are welcome to come and join the YAC committee on Saturday, November 12 from 3pm until 5pm for a relaxing afternoon in the Community Youth Centre. Girls can expect to learn about skin and body care, as well as have a little fa-

cial and some nail painting too. There will be some afternoon sweet and savoury treats to enjoy while relaxing. All funds raised will be donated to the Butterfly Foundation which supports Australians in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders and body issues. Unfortunately, one in 27 Australians have an eating disorder; that’s about four per cent of Australians. For more information, contact Ms Yantewo on 8671 0500.

Carols showcase local talent

WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

C

ommunity carols will return to Roxby Downs this festive season, with a host of local talent set to serenade with classic Christmas tunes.

The event will be held earlier this year on Sunday, November 27, following lower than expected numbers in 2015 due to school already having finished. This is the second year the carols will be held on the small oval after moving from the Christian Community Church, and event organiser Ross Wilson said he is hoping to see more people there than last year. “We are hoping to get everyone involved, it is a community event!” he said. “It was reasonably successful last year, we are now hoping to build (that success) on the different venue (sic).” Pastor David Bunyon from the New Life Christian Community Church said it was great to have a community carols event, and that Christmas was a time for everyone. However, he said with Christmas playing such an important part in Christianity, its ‘true meaning’ from a religious point of view would still be featured strongly throughout the night. Food stalls will be open on the night again this year with plastic candles also available for $2 each. Children’s entertainment will also be provided to accompany the carolling. The event will kick off between 7.30pm and 8pm, ensuring attendees can make full use of their candles in the dark.

Tony D’Arrigo, Father John Folkman, Joe D’Arrigo and Pastor David Bunyon are all part of organising the Carols event.

Local Rotarians impress new District Governor District 9500 Governor John Pohl with Rotary Club of Roxby Districts Secretary Sandy Sumsion during his visit last week.

N

ewly appointed Area 9500 Rotary District Governor John Pohl visited Roxby Downs for the first time last week.

Mr Pohl’s routine visit as was part of his District Governor’s role to present the Rotary Club of Roxby Districts with information from the 9500 region, as well as the Rotary world president. District 9500 encompasses a large area from Alice Springs to Adelaide, Port Lincoln to the Barossa Valley and Kangaroo Island and everywhere in between. Mr Pohl said his visits to Roxby Downs would be extremely important, as it was one of the most isolated Rotary clubs in the State. Mr Pohl said he was impressed with what he had seen during his visit, and commended the local club for the work they were doing within the community. “I was extremely impressed, they are a very active club and the community work they do is outstanding,” he said. “The club is doing a tremendous job and they should be very proud of what they have done.”

Mr Pohl said 2016 was not over for the local Rotary Club, with the group set to hold the Roxby Downs Christmas Pageant on Saturday, December 3, and also play a part in the Roxby Downs Area School Parents and Friends Twilight Markets this weekend. Next year, the club will continue to be busy, having already committed to feeding hundreds of participants visiting the area for the annual Shitbox Car Rally. Mr Pohl arrived on Tuesday, November 1, and was taken on a tour of Roxby Downs’ facilities before making his way out to Andamooka and having a look around the old cottages, as well as going under the Post Office to see Peter Taubers’ opal mining display. A Rotary Club of Roxby Districts meeting was then held at the Tuckerbox that night, where new member Ross Wilson was inducted and the group held its own Melbourne Cup race. Mr Pohl said the trip was very educational and eye opening and he was impressed with what both Roxby Downs and Andamooka had to offer. BY PATRICK GLOVER

Checking in on local athletes WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

A

thletic Strength and Conditioning Coach Tony Checker returned to Roxby Downs last week, holding another session with around 20 local athletes and coaches.

The session, Tony’s second visit to Roxby Downs, focused on the mechanics of acceleration and the major concepts of resistance training, as well as the myths surrounding using that training for younger developing athletes. Checker had already held sessions with St Barbara’s Parish School students, the Roxby Downs West Adelaide Development Academy players and local junior basketball players. A number of these athletes

attended the strength and conditioning workshop and acted as demonstrators for the group. “They are a very coachable group and the responses of every athlete there tell us how quick ly they pick up these kind of concepts,” Checker said. He said he enjoyed making it to rural communities and hoped to continue working with Roxby Downs locals into the future. “It is really, really exciting and really, really important to keep working together to keep providing these opportunities for young developing athletes,” Checker finished. T

ickets for the Roxby Academy of Dance (RAD) end of year concert went on sale last Friday, with demand expected to be as high as ever this year.

The concert has been a sell out for the past three years, and academy director Lana ‘Miss Lana’ Chamberlain said she was expecting a similar turnout in 2016 following what has been a busy year. “We will be doing our nationals (sic) routine, and the fact that it is of a national standard, I hope takes the show to another level,” Miss Lana said. “We have had a really busy year, we have been full on the whole time. “All the dancers are really happy and are looking forward to showing it all off. “The nationals routine especially will be good to show off to those that weren’t able to go; they get to see what we did.” This year’s shows will be held on Thursday,

December 1, and Friday, December 2, and will go for around two and a half hours showcasing dancers from all age groups, ranging from three year old children to adults. Miss Lana said the classes had been working all throughout the year and were now all excited and pumped to perform in the concert. Following the concerts RAD will wrap up its year with a presentation ceremony on Saturday, December 3, recognising every student for their efforts. Miss Lana said she has had a lot of help throughout the year and thanked all her student teachers – Hayley Lamb, Jordan Honnor, Monique Gobbie and Daniel Bulman for their assistance with classes. Tickets are on sale now with adult tickets $20, $10 for pensioners and children tickets $8. BY PATRICK GLOVER

oxby Miners’ captain Mick Nelson won a crucial toss and elected to bat in the Roxby Downs Cricket Association round three fixture against Olympic Dam (OD) on the weekend.

Warhorse Paul Trotta (31) started confidently with some great stroke play before losing young gun Josh Sheppard (8) after a couple of boundaries. Spearhead, OD skipper Patrick ‘Gambino’ Glover, was playing dominos with 21 dots in his first spell, but was unable to break through. OD newcomer Chris Bird was given the new ball and put in a gutsy effort removing Shepperd and bowling tight lines. Aitchinson (76) was ‘itching’ for some runs at first drop, and batted for a majority

of the innings for a patient and crucial half century. He was aided by Travis Capper (50) in a 112 run partnership for the third wicket. Round one hero Ben Vandeleur (0/36) bowled without luck and was punished for loose deliveries. In his first game, Steve ‘Wobbly’ Webber (1/34) was very handy with his away swingers in the middle overs for OD. In the end, some excellent batting and a lack of bowling depth hurt Olympic Dam with the last ten overs going for 80 – despite the best efforts of Glover who returned to claim the important wickets of Capper and Rhys Allard. In reply, Mick Nelson took a screamer in slips to remove Webber without scoring in the first over bringing Glover (72 not out) to the crease. The skipper and emerging talent Roger I’Anson (29) batted well together to get Olympic Dam to 1/63 at drinks - only 25

behind the Miners at the same point. After I’Anson was removed by swing king Nelson (1/14), Olympic Dam ‘just didn’t have the cattle’ to support Glover who posted his highest score, but would have needed a maiden ton to give them any chance. Allard (3/28) bowled with great pace, not the speed of the balls but the time between deliveries, which was cheeky but an effective ploy against an inexperienced batting line up. In the end the Miners were too good and look a formidable, organised group who will take some beating. Having a strong football season seems to have rubbed off on the cricket department with good numbers and a wide spread of options for captain Nelson. They are the team to beat at present. Olympic Dam needs to find some regular starters if they are going to continue their dynasty, which seems to be on the ropes for now.

Roos fight back to take game

WRITTEN BY PATRICK GLOVER

East Roxby 172 defeated Hornridge 8/166

H

ornridge entered this week’s match against East Roxby as the in-form team of the competition, sitting top of the table with two wins from as many matches.

They were out to make amends for their dismal performance against the Roos at the start of the season, where they were bowled out for 37 in round one of the T20 competition. East Roxby won the toss and elected to bat first, but Horn-

ridge’s want to reverse the score line from early in the season showed, having the Roos on the back foot at 5/39. But another half century to Sachira Muthukumarana, his second for the season, with support from Andrew Williamson (44) guided the Roos out of trouble. Even with the departure of Muthukumarana for a wellmade 54, Williamson continued with the job batting with the lower order to guide East Roxby to an earlier unthinkable 172. Opening bowler Jeremy Oldfield took three wickets for Hornridge, while skipper Jamie

Way swapped the gloves for a bowl and claimed three scalps himself. In reply, Hornridge was cruising at 1/99 thanks to a 73-run partnership between veteran Clint Gow-Smith and Leroy Kavanagh. But Kavanagh’s wicket brought about a mini collapse for Hornridge as they lost 4/23 in the space of seven overs. Running out of overs, Hornridge tried to up the run rate but continuous wickets hindered the chase, eventually falling just six runs short with two wickets still in hand. Gow-Smith, in his first game for the season, was top scorer

with 47 while Kavanagh’s 25 was the next best. For the Roos, Ameer Shah was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while the ever reliable Chamila Rathnajake chipped in with two of his own. This result opens the competition up again with Hornridge and Miners on top of the ladder with two wins each and OD and East Roxby not far behind with one win apiece. This ladder makes this weekend’s games even more interesting, with the Miners taking on Hornridge on Friday night and OD playing East Roxby on Saturday.

Local rider Trent Headland and Victorian passenger Daz Whetstone not only had their first race for the season, but also the first on their brand new bike – built by Headland in collaboration with South Coast Customs and TRE Engineering. “The bike is an animal,” Headland said recently. “After spending hours in the shed and working closely with Gary Steentjes from South Coast Customs, it has finally come together. It didn’t miss a beat on Saturday night!” The Rockets’ first heat for the night, against SA’s Mick Headland and Brenton Kerr, and Clinton Crabb and Michael Bell was smooth, with the Rockets taking and maintaining an early lead to win ahead of the two other teams respectively. Racing on his home track, original Whyalla man Damien Neische and his passenger Mitch Spear, both now of Adelaide, were strongly competitive against the Rockets in their second heat, winning the race, leaving the Rockets with second. In their third heat, the SA pairing of Justin Plaisted and Jamie Banks ‘touched the tapes’, earning them a 15 second penalty in the race’s restart. The Rockets continued their early winning streak, followed closely by Plaisted/Banks, SA’s Klae Hobbs and the Ricky Fechner/Cameron White pairing. A faster Mark Plaisted and Ben Pitt from SA beat the Rockets in their fourth heat who placed second, followed by Aaron SIlvy and Adam Pascoe (SA) and Dean Hobbs and Justin Richards (SA).

In their final heat before the finals, the Rockets were victorious against Nathan Johnstone and SA’s Brian Silvy and Josh Knott, who were also racing on a new bike for the team. “We as a team were really pleased with how the heat races ran,” Headland said. “The bike was absolutely on song, and the team just picked up where we left off after our successes last season. It’s great to be back!” The A finals for the night was a star-studded family affair, with brothering teams Mark and Justin Plaisted, as well as relatives Mick and Trent Headland, jumping to the fore. After a messy initial get off, and consequent restart, the pace was set early for the race with Plaisted/ Banks taking the lead followed by Plaisted/Pitt, Headland/ Kerr and the Rockets. The teams raced and finished in those positions respectively. “Although the main final result was a little disappointing with the knowledge that we could have definitely taken out the whole event, it has given us a basis to tackle and move on from for the rest of the season,” Headland said. “A little bit of work in the shed and at the gym and we should be on song for the next meeting!” Next up for the Rockets will be the Queensland Titles in South Brisbane on Saturday December 3. Then, locally, the Secker Real Estate will host a family fun day as a fundraiser for the Rockets at the Roxby Downs Community Club on Friday, December 16. The event plans to offer entertainment for the whole family. Details will be published in future editions of The Monitor.
