Edith Lasser 1932 ~ 2016
Edith Lasser, a long time resident of Chetwynd, B.C. passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Chetwynd Hospital at the age of 84 years. Edith Evelyn Howe was born on Thursday, August 4, 1932 in the Royal Columbian Hospital at New Westminster, British Columbia; her parents were Grant and Mildred Howe. The family lived in Pitt Meadows and other lower mainland locations prior to returning to Pitt Meadows and purchasing a dairy farm in November 1937. During the remainder of the years of the Depression and World War II, the family sold milk, chickens and potatoes. Edith attended elementary school in Pitt Meadows and High school in Maple Ridge. One day while riding on the school bus she became annoyed by a boy and pulled his hat down over his face - her future brother-in-law Douglas. Charles knew her bother Allen, one day Edith went to the theatre with the boys, and by the time the show ended, Charlie had a date with Edith. Edith completed nurses training at Essendale after high school. During this time Edith and Charles dated and a few months after graduation they married on August 4, 1954. The newlyweds made their home on the Lasser Family farm in Pitt Meadows. The dairy farm eventually turned to raising beef cattle. Charles and Edith brought Lasser Ranch of Chetwynd in 1971 and moved the family during 1974. In Chetwynd, Edith was involved in many clubs and activities over the years. Such as the Hospital Auxiliary, the Lions Club, her weekly ladies group. Edith was predeceased by her parents Grant and Mildred, and her brother Alan Howe. Edith is survived by her loving husband Charles Lasser, her daughter Sheri (Rod) Crawford, her sons Bob Lasser, and Don (Rhonda) Lasser, her grandchildren Joseph (Laura) Crawford, Michael (Anna) Crawford, and Jennifer Chen, her great grandchildren Ava Crawford and Kaira Crawford, as well as her brother-in-law Douglas Lasser, and her niece Patti (Richard) Hues. A Celebration of Edith’s Life was held on Monday, August 19, 2016 at the Chetwynd Curling Arena with Pastor Lori Mickelson officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. Spencer Andrew Mitchell Gourley
was born May 6, 1998 in Trail, British Columbia. He had a beautiful spirit and a huge heart. Spencer was kind and genuine, beautiful inside and out. He filled our lives with so much love and laughter. Spencer loved sports, especially hockey and he was a huge soccer fan. Spencer loved to play Call of Duty and HALO. He had a whole area of the basement dedicated to gaming. Spenni was his YouTube channel that he was very passionate about where he made and edited videos. With all of his hobbies, he still made time to go for coffee and hang out with friends and family. Spencer passed away September 1, 2016 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. A Celebration of Life was held September 7, 2016 at the Dawson Creek Alliance Church. Lorena Bestward 1934 ~ 2016
A long time resident of Dawson Creek, B.C. Lorena Bestward, passed away in the arms of her loving husband John on Saturday, August 27, 2016 in Rotary Manor, at the age of 81 years. Laurie was born Dec. 4, 1934 in Holdfast Saskatchewan to Joseph and Katharine Hungle. She grew up in Dilke, Saskatchewan and attended the Van Size and Kenockee Country schools. Lorena married John Bestward in Dilke on September 21, 1953 and they eventually made their way to Dawson Creek where they raised their family. Over the years she worked in Woolworths department store and the Pagoda Restaurant. Laurie loved to go camping , play bingo, knit and crochet. Lorena was predeceased by her Son; Dale Bestward, Parents; Joseph and Katherine Hungle, Brother; Edward, Sister; Theresa. Lorena will be lovingly remembered by her Husband; John of 62 years, Daughter; Donna (Rodger), Sons; Wayne (Norma), Russ (Darlene), brothers; Fritz, Daniel, Ronald, sisters; Eileen Pedron, Francis Parker, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Cremation services were held at Reynars Crematorium. With Respect to Lorena’s wishes no formal funeral service will be held. Interment will be held at a later date. Jennie Sewell, a pioneer of Doe River, B.C. passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Rotary Manor, Dawson Creek at the age of 99 years. Jennie Marie Henrickson was born in Dahlen, North Dakota on July 20, 1917. At the age of eight, she moved to Canada with her parents, John and Anna Henrickson. She had two sisters and four brothers. At a young age she went to work cooking and cleaning for farm families in Doe River and Rolla. In July of 1936, she met Norman Sewell. Norman and Jennie were married on January 15, 1937 and they had four children; Edna, Norma, Carl, and Terry. Norman and Jennie shared 59 wonderful years together, as Norman passed away in January of 1996. Jennie was a lifetime member of the Doe River Women’s Institute. She was also a member of the Senior Citizen’s Association, Sons of Norway, and the Doe River Square Dancing Club. Jennie was always welcoming others into her home for games and card parties, and nobody left hungry. Her grandchildren all love and cherish the quilts, pillows, and tea towels she handmade for each of them over the years. She was also always humming a tune, loved sing-a-longs and was immensely proud of her musical family. Holidays were always special with lots of laughter, food, cooking of lefse, and gifts. The grandkids going off to college were sent with an ice cream bucket full of their favorite cookies. Jennie loved company. She had the “Guestbook” and it didn’t matter how many times you visited, you always had to sign the guestbook. Jennie was predeceased by her husband Norman, her parents John and Anna Henrickson, her mother and father-in-law, ten brothers-in-law, and nine sisters-in-law. Jennie is survived by her daughters Edna Yaeger, and Norma (Dave) McAmmond, her sons Carl Sewell, and Terry (Brenda) Sewell, her grandchildren: Charlene (Cliff) Hollen, Curtis (Patty) Yaeger, Tracy Yaeger, Brady (Sandra) Yaeger, Sheldon (Audra) Yaeger, Shawn (Jenn) McAmmond, Jason (Holly) Sewell, and Corey Sewell, her four great grandchildren Cassi, Jessica, Nathan, and Declan, her great-great grandchild Blaire, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 1:00 PM from Reynars Funeral Home. Pauline Haycock officiated. Interment followed in the Peace View Cemetery, Doe River, B.C.
