How to get a congratulatory message from the King

For a significant wedding anniversary or birthday

You can apply to the Department of Internal Affairs Congratulatory Message Service to arrange for a message of congratulations to be sent from His Majesty the King or a New Zealand dignitary, to a couple celebrating their 50th, 55th, 60th, 65th, 70th (or over) wedding anniversary, or a person celebrating a birthday of 100 years or more.

New Zealand dignitaries include the Governor-General, Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Affairs or the local Member of Parliament.

You will need to apply four to eight weeks before the anniversary or birthday by:

• applying online, here for a wedding anniversary or here for a birthday; or

• completing an application form and emailing or posting it to the Congratulatory Message Service team.
