Calendar Girls is set in the small town of Knapely, Yorkshire, where Annie Clarke has just lost her husband, who was ill with leukaemia. Her best friend Chris decides to make an “alternative” calendar with local middle-age women from the Women’s Institute posing nude, to raise funds for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. As interest snowballs, the ‘Girls’ find themselves revealing more than they’d ever planned... It’s a very British story, with a very British heart – Calendar Girls is based on an inspiring true story that is quirky, poignant and hilarious. Actresses Shelley Charlton and Vauneen Stevens lead a local cast of wonderful ladies (and a few men) who have had a ball rehearsing to bring this internationally successful play to Orewa.
