The Lowry first opened its doors to the public on 28 April 2000 and, as we celebrate our 10th anniversary year, it is now hard to imagine life without The Lowry and its constantly evolving artistic programme. We are indebted to all the artists and hardworking staff who have, over the years, helped shape our vibrant cultural organisation. Thanks also go out to the 300 volunteers who assist our front-of-house team. We are also extremely grateful to our funders, Salford City Council and Arts Council England, along with all our other sponsors, patrons, members and friends for their continued backing. Internationally acclaimed fine art photographers Anderson & Low have been shown around the world but this is their first British exhibition outside London. The performers who feature in Circus are all members of an international circus company based at Blackpool Pleasure Beach. They are shown on stage and amongst the amusement park rides - and these compelling images all reveal the power, strength, beauty and skill of the performers.
BJL, one of Britain’s most creative independent advertising agencies, explore the relationship between advertising and art. Artists will engage with the many themes and brands within BJL’s client list, using advertising and media as creative canvases. Like an advertising concept, the exhibition will evolve and change shape through installations and on-site crafts such as creative workshops.

Ballet Nacional de Cuba
magia de la Danza & Swan Lake Wed 14 – Sat 17 April The Lowry is delighted to welcome Ballet Nacional de Cuba, one of the world’s most prestigious dance companies, to its stage for the first time. They will be joined by Carlos Acosta for a special appearance in the performance on Thu 15 April at 7.30pm. Renowned for its unparalleled technique and impeccable style, taking classic Western ballets and invigorating them with passion and Latin-American drama, the company has created more than 600 works and performed in more than 60 countries worldwide. Founded by ballet legend Alicia Alonso, the company has spawned and exported some of the world’s greatest male dancers, including the wonderful Carlos Acosta, Principal Guest Artist at The Royal Ballet. For this visit, the company bring two programmes, Magia de la Danza and Swan Lake. Magia de la Danza (Wed 14 & Thu 15 April) is a spectacular showcase which brings together extracts from Alonso’s versions of seven of the company’s most famous ballets including the Nutcracker, Coppelia and Swan Lake. Carlos Acosta will be performing Grand Pas de Deux from Act III of Don Quixote on Thursday evening. Swan Lake (Fri 16 & Sat 17 April) is arguably the most famous ballet in the traditional repertoire. Set to Tchaikovsky’s immortal music and choreographed by Alicia Alonso, based on the original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, this version is a simple story of remarkable transformations, magic spells and terrible curses; a story in which the power of love ultimately triumphs over evil.

La Bohème

Opera North’s beautiful production of Puccini’s masterpiece of young love and heartbreak is set in Paris in the 1950s, and is as fluid and detailed as a film. Director Phyllida Lloyd’s previous successes for Opera North include the multi-award-winning Peter Grimes, and her stage production and film of the musical Mamma Mia! have created a global phenomenon. With its vivid portrayal of Parisian life, the excitement of falling in love and the desolation of loss, this is a Bohème high on emotion. Get the tissues ready - you’ll need them!

When mild-mannered Robin Oakapple is revealed as the inheritor of the curse of Ruddigore which compels him to commit a crime a day, his romance with the faultlessly virtuous Rose Maybud looks doomed. But his troubles really start when he proves incapable of fulfilling the curse, and his ancestors’ portraits begin to haunt him.
Così fan tutte is one of Mozart’s most remarkable creations. It all starts with a casual bet that the fiancées of two young men won’t stay faithful for a minute if put to the test. It sounds harmless enough, but cruelty is inherent in this game and there are darker forces at work.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s witty pastiche of Victorian melodrama is one of their most enjoyable and ingenious operettas. This new production has a distinctively Opera North freshness of approach, whilst fully embracing the spirit of G&S’s topsy-turvy invention.

Die Fledermaus mon 15 - Sat 20 February Opera della Luna (The Mikado, 2008 and HMS Pinafore, 2009) turn their hand to the ‘Waltz King’, Johann Strauss, with a glittering new production of Die Fledermaus, one of the world’s most famous operettas. Left by his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein to wander home, drunk and dressed as a bat, Dr Falke decides to exact revenge for his humiliation. He arranges for Eisenstein to attend an extremely risqué party at the home of the outrageous Russian aristocrat, Prince Orlofsky. There, Eisenstein seduces a mysterious Hungarian countess, who is in fact his own wife in disguise. This saucy production with a sparkling score is directed, with his own new translation, by Jeff Clarke, and designed by Gabriella Csanyi-Wills: the team that created The Mikado.

Spike milligan’s Adolf Hitler: my Part in His Downfall Tue 6 – Sat 10 April
Spike Milligan’s celebrated war memoirs take to the road in this gloriously absurd and exuberant hit comedy which has had both audiences and critics in stitches. High comedy and tragedy collide as we follow Gunner Milligan and his jazz quartet, adrift on the tide of great historic events. Using Milligan’s own words, the show joyously fuses comedy, song and dance; showing how humour, music and comradeship enabled a hapless bunch of young men to prevail against the might of the Nazi war machine. But when doubt is cast on her wig everything starts to unravel and Rivka finds herself far from home, not knowing whether she’ll be able to go back, or whether she wants to. Inspired by a chance remark by Victoria Beckham in 2004 which sparked a crisis within the Orthodox Jewish community about the wigs worn by married women.
The tragic, comical, romantic and scandalous history of Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, the man who was Hamlet; not the illiterate tax-dodger of Stratford but the real William Shakespeare.
In 1953 beekeeper Edmund Hillary and porter Tenzing Norgay began a gruelling and treacherous ascent to conquer Everest.
This is theatre at its purest: a single actor, an empty stage and a tour-de-force performance of Shakespeare’s great narrative poem.
This play was developed with the support of the European Association for Jewish Culture.

Produced and directed by the award-winning duo and featuring their trademark films which take you behind the scenes, they have assembled a first rate company of young male dancers aged 18-24. Featuring video, photography, performances and workshops, Who Am I? explores identity of Indian immigrants by reflecting on India’s classical art heritage. Tue 20 – Sat 24 April The performing company of Central School of Ballet bring their 25th anniversary tour to The Lowry. With an extensive repertoire* from some of the world’s leading choreographers, the evening features a revival of Dances from a Knot Garden, Michale Pink’s narrative piece I Don’t Want To Set The World on Fire and Philip Aiden’s Let Yourself Go, plus new work from Louise Bennett and Christopher Marney.
Based on the British film of the same name, this American take follows six out-of-work steel workers who decide to bear all in an effort to make money and find some meaning in their lives.
*The company reserves the right to alter the programme. The final repertoire will be confirmed on the day of the performance.
Follow the guys from their first thoughts of stripping off, as well as their first doubts, to the climax where the thongs will fly! As well as the comedy and hilarious script, the show explores friendship and the lack of self-confidence and esteem caused through unemployment.

When booking by fax or post please remember to include full performance details (e.g. evening/matinee performance and seating area), payment method (e.g. card details) your name, address, postcode and, very importantly, your telephone number. Some performances contain loud noises and special effects. For further information please speak to our Box Office. Access for Disabled People The Lowry is an accessible space. We advise wheelchair users and those taking advantage of our signed or audio described performances to inform the Box Office when booking tickets for a theatre event, so we can ensure all seating requirements are met. Hiring a wheelchair The Lowry has 4 wheelchairs available for hire free of charge. These can be booked through Box Office (3 manual and 1 motorised).
Parking There is a passenger drop-off point immediately in front of The Lowry. Secure parking is available in the Lowry Outlet Mall car park, which also has designated areas for disabled people on each level. We recommend that Blue Badge holders enter the car park at the entrance near the mini roundabout on the road leading from The Quays as this will allow parking on the ground floor level. There is no booking fee for Patrons or those registered as disabled or taking advantage of a signed or audio described performance.
