Ingredients
For the Cookies:
2½ cups all-purpose flour (300g)
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
½ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter softened
1 cup light brown sugar packed (220g)
½ cup granulated sugar (100g)
1 large egg room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pumpkin puree (240g)
For the Icing:
2 cups powdered sugar (240g)
¼ cup whole milk (60mL)
2 tablespoons butter melted and cooled

(Continued on page 4)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Instructions
For the Cookies:
In a medium bowl, whisk to combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or an electric hand mixer), combine the butter, light brown and granulated sugars. Beat on medium speed for 2 to 3 minutes until well combined.
Add the egg and vanilla, then mix on low for 1 minute, until lightened in color and fluffy. Add the pumpkin and mix on low for about 30 seconds to combine. With a rubber spatula, scrape down the bottom and sides of the bowl and mix again until the ingredients are evenly distributed.\ With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Scrape the bowl down one last time and use a spatula to fold in any remaining flour. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
After the dough has been chilling for 15 minutes, preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
Use a 1½ tablespoon-sized triggered cookie scoop to portion the cookies to be about 1½-inches in diameter. Scoop the cookies directly onto the prepared pans, leaving about 2 inches of space in between each cookie.
Bake the cookies for about 11 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are just set. Let cool on the sheet tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the icing:
In a medium mixing bowl, sift the powdered sugar. Add the milk, melted butter, vanilla and and salt and whisk the mixture until it is completely smooth. Cover and set aside until ready to use.
Once the cookies are competely cool, drizzle or dip the tops of each in the icing.

TAURUS
(Apr. 21-May 20)

Something may need to come to an end when it comes to another person or even a group of people, mainly because you realise it won’t fit either where your life needs to head in the future or where you want to take it. There can be a lot building up behind the scenes that could be fruitful financially but details need to be dealt with.
LEO (July 23-August 22)
Getting little jobs out of the way that you have been allowing to drift will free your mind to start concentrating on, to early November, something that needs to become more orderly. You need to develop being more determined so to avoid distractions generated by the expectations of somebody else. Your obligations are of prime importance.

SCORPIO (Oct.23-Nov21)
Mercury, the planet of thought and communication is moving into your sign until3rdNovemberenabling youtomake some definite decisions on whatever you have been weighing up since Venus has been in your sign from 23rd September. Something that has turned into a lot more work than you anticipatedmightbepartofthemix.
GEMINI
(May 21-June 20)

You could either benefit or gain recognition from a group of people or perhaps friends. You could be easily distracted when it comes to routine things that need to be dealt with. It might make you realise which ones might be better dropped so that you can focus on what is more important to early November and get a regulated pattern in place.
VIRGO
(August 23-Sept.22)
Exactly what somebody else expects when it comes to finances can become very clear. If this does not fit with your priorities, now is the time to resist, especially if it generates more obligationsforyou. Youhavelikely sorted much out of late and can move on to thinking about other things or seeking more information to early November.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb.18)
Definite decisions on something that can have no future can result in a releasing effect, after what might have been a long period of time. Turn your focus, up to early November, towards any commitments you are willing to accept or realise you need to accept. It can enable you to make better choices that you have to deal with on a regular basis.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov.22-Dec.21)

Something involving you with friends or a group of people could turn out to be more enjoyable than you anticipated. They might push for more, which won’t suit other things you need to focus on. It will be wise to find quiet time to yourself from now to early November to clear your head and contemplate decisions that might need to be made.
PISCES
(Feb. 19-March 20)
The pressure of somebody else’s expectations of late can result in greater clarity to early November when it comes to the decisions you need to make when it comes to the future. You could tune into certain games that are being played. This can make you more determined than ever to stir things up, which could include asking some awkward questions.
CANCER (June
21-July 22)
You could gain recognition or perhaps an award for anything you have been diligently working on of late. This could also bring benefits, particularly from mid 2025 that would not be evident at the moment. You will be able to mentally relax up to early November. This can have the effect of generating creative ideas.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct.22)
Something about another person can reach a stage of fulfilment that you will feel quite happy about, especially where the future is concerned. This will enable you to move on and think about other things to early November. In some ways it can feel as though you are leaving the past behind and that will free you up to enjoy life more.

CAPRICORN
(Dec. 22-Jan.19)
Make final decisions about obligations, which might have been quite long term, that you realise no longer fit your life. You have probably been weighing up what is important to you since the latter part of September. From now to early November you are in a good position to make clear cut decisions on what your priorities now need to be.
ARIES

(March 21-April 20)
The Full Moon occurs in your sign this week while activating Mars and Jupiter giving you the opportunity to see exactly what needs to be put in place. Information on the best way of doing this will be readily available, which might include advice from someone in the know. Somebody else could be moving on in some way, freeing you up.

The 24/25 Met Opera broadcasts begin in early November at The Beacon Theatre The 24/25 season of Met Opera: Live in HD broadcasts, co -presented by the Lakes District Arts Council and The Beacon Theatre, begins on Sunday, November 10th at 1:00 pm with a new opera Grounded starring Canadian mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo, one of opera’s most compelling young stars. D’Angelo portrays Jess, a hot-shot fighter pilot whose unplanned pregnancy takes her out of the cockpit and lands her

in Las Vegas, operating a drone halfway around the world. As she struggles to adjust to this new way of doing battle, she fights to maintain her sanity as she is called to rain down death by remote control. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin oversees the Met premiere of composer Jeanine Tesori’s score. The cast features tenor Ben Bliss as the Wyoming rancher who becomes Jess’s husband. Michael Mayer’s high-tech staging, using a vast array of LED screens, presents a variety of perspectives on the action including the drone’s predatory view from high above. Content Advisory: Grounded contains adult language and war sequences.
Tickets for the Met operas this season will be $15.00 each, and are available starting at 12:30 pm at The Beacon Theatre box office the day of the performance. Watch for LDAC ads closer to the broadcast date, in the Lakes District News and The Local Connector NW.
