Maybe like sea turtles we can’t determine between the patio light and the authentic light of the moon— so we don’t know which way to move in our bodies. But if everything relents and you have your first thoughts about the freezer contents and then of resetting the alarm clock, what then do you think of sitting in the dark with one candle burning between us, and the hum and tick of the refrigerator gone.
