results tell us anything conclusive. It is nonetheless interesting to note that the relationship between birthrates and LCMS change seems to be stronger during periods of membership decline. The LCMS experienced a short but sharp decline in the 1970s, followed by two decades of relative stability, and then a more serious and extended period of decline that began around the year 2000.
