Above: Harry says that 99% of the car was rebuilt, with parts being replaced where necessary, which includes the hood. This is a new canvas hood from Exmoor Trim – a company that really knows how to provide the right ‘stripes’ or ‘spots’ for your Land Rover…

ent models. You don’t get that in any other vehicle.’ As Harry and I discussed the idiosyncrasies of being a Land Rover owner, the conversation turned towards the masses of work he has put into the car over the best part of two years. The previously mentioned bulkhead was swapped for a new galvanised one as, in Harry’s own words, ‘it was better to replace the whole bulkhead rather than patch-welding multiple different parts of it.’ On top of that, the chassis was shotblasted and painted with Plascoat PPA571, which he’s reliably informed, is the same paint that’s used on underwater pipelines. In terms of the engine, the hoses, belts and leads have all been replaced, as well as a new Weber carburettor coming in for the original Lucas one. Furthermore, the engine has been serviced and tuned, with the fluids being flushed and replaced along with a refurbed radiator. On the exterior, new doors complete with windows are in, along with brand new lights throughout the interior of the vehicle. Aesthetics-wise, Exmoor Trim canvases and seats are in as well as Harry’s beloved change - the newly done paintwork. ‘CL Panelcraft did a fantastic job with the paintwork, it’s my favourite aspect of the Series III and I love how different the car can look in certain types of light.’ Harry’s Series III has very much established itself as his secondary pride and joy (after his wife). It was even present on his big day. ‘Since completing the rebuild I even used it as my wedding car!’ So from feline chowder to fancy carriage, this is one Land Rover that has been lucky enough to escape the enclosure that can be rust and neglect. In Harry it found a new gamekeeper and one who put this old Landy back on the straight and narrow. Harry’s vehicle is currently for sale, and he is avaliable on hkissock@hotmail.co.uk or on 07884 008691.
